Good morning everyone in Lantus Land. Are you ready to party? Today we are celebrating Tori's 5 Year Annifurary of having the Direbeasties. Yes it's been 5 years. Hard to believe. Everything is set up for the party. Tori and I have been working hard to get the yard set up and the food and Tunaritas all ready. All we need now is you guys. It's a beautiful day here in Edmonton. COme onel come all!

I said that Today I would tell you our story for those who aren't familiar with it. Tori was diagnosed just before her 9th birthday 5 years ago. She'd been losing weight, was having a love affair with her water dish and was peeing like a race horse. So I took her in for a check up. That was the day that we met Dr Doug. He had just graduated and had just joined the practice. It was a lucky day for us. He has been her vet ever since. He's a great guy. We have learned a lot on this journey together. Our journey has certainly been an interesting one. We have seen some pretty high highs and some pretty low lows. We started on NPH insulin right away.

Less than one week after diagnosis Tori became very ill. Her eyes started running like crazy, she wouldn't eat. She just looked sick. Her BG was up higher than it had ever been in the high 500s. It turned out she had a dental abcess in her top canine. She wound up having an emergency dental with a BG of 600 the next day. Poor Doug looking back he must have been scared to death.

After that things calmed down apart from her hypoing on me a month later. She went down to less than 20 and I couldn't get her back up so she spent the day getting IV glucose. After that she was switched to Canninsulin. Things went well but no sign of remission. Then Rocky her brother got very sick with his IBD. I decided to switch to a raw food diet and guess what -not only did it help Rocky but Tori went into remission and stayed there for just over 2 years.

In October 2008 Tori started to be bothered with arthritis and a degenerative disc in her back. Doug decided to put her on a very low dose of Metacam. If only I'd known what I know know she never would have received it. She reacted badly to it. She became very ill. She had such bad Gastrtis that she actually vomited up a piece of her stomach mucosa. She then became septic and developed Pancreatitis as well. We almost lost her. She started to recover though but couldn't eat so we put in a feeding tube which she had for a month. Unfortunately though her Pancreas was unable to recover and she has been back on Insulin ever since.

Tori now has Chronic Pancreatitis. She has had 2 severe flares since then which required hospitalization and some minor flares that we have been able to treat at home. We always be grateful to Jojo for and the rest of you with CP kitties who have taught us how to manage her CP at home.

So that is our journey. It has been filled with many challenges. I have been blest with the most marvelous kitty in the world. She's a real fighter my little girl and I couldn't love her more or be more proud of her. This week we will face another challenge. Possibly the biggest one yet. Tori has an enlarged lymph node in her neck. It will be biopsied on Thursday. I sam very nervous about this .

ANYWAY TODAY WE PARTY!! COME JOIN US EVERYBODY! LET'S HAVE A PARTY TO REMEMBER!

Tugger heard "Party" and all I saw were his back legs flying as he raced away! He should be pounding on your door any second now ;)

Thanks so much for sharing Tori's story! Isnt it amazing how resiliant cats can be? Almost more so than humans! I did not realize she (and YOU) had been so much.

I also didnt realize she had a reaction from metacam..pancreatitis? I often wonder if it didnt do more damage to Latte than just the renal failure. Once the acute phase was better, she was never the same...and shouldnt have had as many problems for a cat who recovered so well. Hmmmm. And the degenerative disc disease...Latte has that too! Boy, will they have a lot to talk about at the party today! Poor things....but survivors they are!

Well, guess its a party hoppin day for Latte! First to your place, then a candlelit pizza dinner at Pat and Shadows! Woooohoooo! Im jealous! Maybe Tori would like to join Latte at Pat's this evening to continue the celebration???? (psst...I hear they have niptinis there!)

Enjoy your celebration, and make sure to do something for yourself as well...its been quite a road on your end, too!

Goooooooo Tori! Happy 5 year annifursary!!!!!

With all the tough situations Tori has fought through, I'm sure she'll get through the lymph node thing too. It's just one more thing to bond you two even closer. I know you would rather not have so many bonding experiences, though.

HI guys! Scrabble loves a party so he is on his way for sure!!! What an amazing story! You are a wonderful mamabean and I am sure Tori appreciates you!
Happy Annifursary!!!

Hi Barb & Tori, What a brave and strong girl Tori is! Happy Anniversary indeed! Stu will love to come to your party, Tori, and he'll enjoy meeting such a fine kitty. Then, later, perhaps Tori would like to accompany Stu, Latte, and the other kitties to the new-moon party at Shadow and Raja's. This will be a day and evening of celebrations!
Thanks for sharing Tori's story, Barb.

Thanks for sharing Tori's story. I am sending many positive vines for her biopsy. Bear loves to party, and has his best party hat on for tonight.

Well the party has wound down at our place and now it's off to Shadow and Raja's for the New Moon party. Thanks so much for all your good wishes. It has been a very special day. Tori really enjoyed her time out in the sun with her brothers and everyone who came to wish her well. All the treats didn't affect her BGs too much. She was 140 at +6 and 270 at PMPS. Not bad. The 1.5 F seems to be working for her. Also probably the antibiotic is kicking in . Thanks again everybody. Please keep Tori in your thoughts and prayers this week that the biopsy will go well and that it turns out to be good news and not lymphoma.

What an amazing story and amazing Tori and Bean. All good vines and white light for the procedure on Thursday. Thank you for posting your story. Good luck. Happy annifursary Tori.

have you asked him if he was?

our paws and fingers are crossed that the biopsy will go smoothly and you'll have only good news.

Oh, darn. Now, I'm in the "dog" house - or in this case the "cat" house.

I've had some health problems for the last couple of weeks and my laptop was in the Hewlitt Packard hospital and I've have been on the board very, very seldom - am just seeing this late tonight - and Mittsi and Dude are really upset with me that they missed Tori's party. Mittsi has had a "hissy fit" - and having seen her in the motel room in Washington, you know how drastic those can be, right? Dude was a little mellower about it but still very upset.

Even tho' a little late, we're sending "happy annifursary" wishes and thoughts to your sweet Tori - along with lots and lots of scritches and a couple of hugs for you too. Your furry companion has been through a lot but she's a fighter and a strong girl.

Am sending many, many good vibes and prayers for Thursday's biopsy - be sure and let us know what the results are. In the meantime, have another little tunarita for Ms. Mittsi and Sir Dudester - and know that we're sending lots of good wishes.

Hugs,

Emmy & Dude (& Mittsi too)

Thinking of you both and hope for a good outcome with the lymph node...please keep us posted. Thank you so much for sharing your story...what a journey you and Tori have been on! You both are very brave and have done a wonderful job....sending lots of hugs to you both! :YMHUG:

Oh wow, what a story! Thanks for sharing! Sorry Spot missed the party, but he sends his happy annifursery wishes today!

Eek!! Flamie is NOT happy that he missed Tori's party! Mombean had a busy weekend (Flamie's "Big Brudder's Senior Prom) so she didn't get on the board till now.

Flamie (and Hobbes) and I wish Tori a very happy belated Annifursary!! Barb, you are the bestest Mamabean! You take such good care of your sweet girl! Thank you for sharing her story. I didn't know all of it and it just makes me admire your dedication and perseverence even more.

I will be sending many, many prayers and positive vibes for you and Tori that the biopsy will show nothing serious.
I know how scary it is. I just went thru this with Flamie. He developed a large lump on the back of his leg right near his lymph node that seemed to appear overnight. Fortunately, the biopsy revealed that it was an abcess and 10 days on AB's cleared it up. Stay positive Barb! Holding your hand across the miles!

Barb good luck with the boipsy this week. I hope Tori flies thru this and is her usual self in no time. Keep us posted and thanks for the party!

Happy Anniversary - I too am a bit late, just finding this this morning. Mannie would have loved to have made the party. Sounds like it was a grand affair!

I wish you luck with the biopsy. Hope all turns out ok.

Aah... now I understand why both my babies were so exhausted last night when I got home!! they had gone off to the party w/o me!

Happy annifursary Barb & Tori. I hope that there are many more annifursary parties!

thanks for sharing your story of love with us.

Barb & Tori--That is indeed a beautiful story about a very brave & loving bean who has seen her furbaby through many trials and tribulations!!

Sending HAPPY 5TH ANNIFURSARY TO YOU BOTH, and May Tori have many many more years with you!!
