We understood & considered anything under 10% to be LC. Several in our regular rotation are 6-9%. Wellness at 4% is about the lowest. After trying MANY foods as we transitioned off dry, the ones he likes best and would eat were mostly in the mid- higher end of the LC range. He eats them regularly both now and when he was on insulin and does fine.
I always considered MC in the 11-17% range, and HC 18% and up. I keep his treats LC for sure. He of course LOVES the FD chicken treats.
ECID ...I know there are some who feel even a percent or 2 can effect numbers and try to stay below 5%. That has not seemed to be the case for us.
When on trial, we tested always before eating and awhile since the last meal as when we were on insulin. You will obviously get food spike numbers if you test too close to them eating. For some cats, it might take an hour or so to come down...others maybe 2-3. You have to test to figure your own out. Main thing is, if you don't like the number..just wait until they are a couple hours from food and test again to gauge if Mr. P is working.
Hank still tests lower at night then AM. It can be interesting to try different times just to see how they do.
You may want to re-try some of the LC foods out on Nay that he might not have liked before. I have discovered Hank may like something he has turned his nose up at in the past. it took us lots of trial and error to find the right ones. But now I have several in rotation he likes for variety. i think in the beginning, they don't feel good, are going through carb/dry withdrawl, tummy can be upset form transitioning,...and sometimes their palette just needs time to adjust.
But I cam promise as soon as you think you have found what he likes, and buy a case, he won't want it tomorrow.
For us, feeding mini-meals is key & has made all the difference. It's easier on the pancreas. We don't have set times, other than he likes breakfast first thing every day. But I'm guessing he gets fed 5-8 times a day or even more. I give it to him when he asks for it...and sometimes even bring it to him when he doesn't to remind him to eat and keep things moving. It may just be a spoonful w/ some water..but seems to really work. it's also really helped with his weight.
