Champ started today by waking me up to feed him, but he was early as usual, so he had to wait for a bit. When I checked his AMPS, I was glad to see that number, but kind of expected it because of his numbers last night. I decided to give him new insulin even though he had good numbers last night, just to see what it would do with such a good AMPS. Hmmmmm.....took him into the pinkus stinkus. ohmygod_smile I'll just call this a bounce and hope he clears it in one cycle like he usually does and hope for a better cycle tonight.

I'm at the end of my rope where it concerns his food and getting him to eat it. He's always been a picky eater about what he likes, though he will eat gobs of it if he likes it; hence, him being a fatboy! I can't get him to eat the Wellness, even if there is Fancy Feast on top. He eats the FF and then leaves the Wellness there to rot. If I mix the FF in, he won't eat it at all. I want to be able to do the "you'll eat it if you get hungry enough" routine with him, but he has to eat in order for me to give him his insulin so I can't just wait him out, and poking him without some food in front of him is a nightmare. I don't want to give him treats for the pokes (chicken breast, tuna, etc) because then he won't be starving enough to eat his actual meals. He is a very stubborn cat. I've never seen a cat so stubborn. I'm pretty much at the pulling out my hair stage. I need to know how much food he needs to eat before giving him his shot, make sure he gets that much into him, shoot, and then test him when he allows me to test him after that, but only leave Wellness out in his bowl....if he wants food, there it is!!!

can't remember if you've mentioned all the tricks - yes, it's vital for the fatboy to keep eating! maybe there's a volume amount that could be a guideline from someone, though - you know, like he has to eat at least x Tblspoons to get his shot.

you can heat it up, pour on tuna juice, sprinkle on parmesan cheese - those are the ones i've heard people mention. punkin's such a hoover that i haven't had that problem.

can't remember why you don't want to just give him fancy feast if he likes it. what was the reason?

Hi Julie. Good suggestions about the toppings. I'm going to remember to sprinkle freeze-dried salmon or chicken over the top and see if that works because those are his favorite treats. I'm trying to change him back to the Wellness because I've noticed a loss of muscle mass in Champ, not only in the wobbly legs, but all over. Since Wellness has no byproducts, that means there's more muscle meat in the food and I'm hoping that will make a difference in Champ's problems. Paws crossed!!!

btw...I just sprinkled some salmon dust over the top of the Wellness left in Champ's bowl to see if he would eat it while I tested. SUCCESS!!!! Thank you for reminding me of that, Julie!!!

Hi Patty, I'm glad the salmon dust worked.....this time. :-D I have had the same problem with Checkers. Luckily, I found that he'll eat with chicken dust . He also loooooooves Forti Flora sprinkled on his food.

hi guys - yep, those are the toppings I have heard work best: chicken dust, or salmon, get top awards. though Mannie is such a hoover and will eat anything. only once has he refused... I wish you luck with Champ. Maybe the secret lies with the dust....

Champ - down you go buddy - it wold make your bean very happy!

Sorry to hear you are having a time with trying to get Champ to eat. I heard from someone here that parmesan cheese acts as a food stimulant because cats love it. I know Simon is crazy over it. Anytime I serve anything with parmesan in it, he starts sniffing the air and running over to my dish to try and steal my food. If I put a tiny bit on my finger, he goes crazy! I don't know what the nutritional value is with parmesan cheese, but just a tiny bit might work if the salmon or chicken dust doesn't work.

Hi Patty, I have the same problem with Maggie being picky. I have lots of Wellness in my kitty cabinet that I've tried, but she won't eat it. When I sprinkle chicken dust on the Wellness, she just licks the chicken dust off and eats very little Wellness. It is frustrating. I hope Champ comes down tonight.

Hi Patty - Getting them to eat can be a problem. I hope you find something that works. Tarragon can be picky at times but there are some he will always eat like any of the seafood FF classics. I don't like to give him very much of it because of the mercury, but I do mix it in to his LC food when he is snubbing it.

Glad to hear the "sprinkles" helped encourage Champ to eat the Wellness!

Funny, around here Trix will hoover the Wellness, but I'm trying to work it out of her diet because I think it raises her BGs. So, I'm facing the same struggle, trying to get her to eat Merrick's BG and EVO. I never thought I'd see the day where she would be pick. It is is extra-stressful when our FD kitties won't eat.

After two days of withholding Wellness, she is getting more accepting of the other foods, although I do feel a bit bad that she doesn't love them as much.

Anyway, I hope you guys are having a great evening!

I use the chicken dust on her food prior to her shot. Sometimes the FortiFlora

I've also started playing w/her just prior to her other meals when I'm home to monitor. She'll eat the food straight up then.


Good luck w/finding something that will work w/Champ. Our furbabies can certainly drive us craaaaaaaaaaaaazy. But we love them just the same.

I think we own stock in the freeze dried chicken company Whole Life. There is chicken dust all over my house and my cats :lol: :lol:

I hope you got him to eat his WN tonight. Nothing more frustrating than a cat that won't eat!! :evil: :evil: :evil:

my cats do love fortiflora, but that's a spendy way to get them to eat!

i'd forgotten about the issue patty - sorry. sometimes i think my brain is swiss cheese! glad the salmon dust worked!

Thank God for salmon dust...I've had no problem getting him to eat just by sprinkling a little on top of his food. Yay!!!! :-D
