Well the job lasted all of 3 days and then after a discussion with DH I decided to quit since they started pulling the same BS that caused me to quit in the first place a couple of years ago...things like having me work 4pm to 11pm one night and then wanting me to turn around and come in at 4:30am the next morning...now while that worked well when I was single with only 2 health cats to care for and only myself to pick up after etc. That just doesn't fly with an insulin dependent cat, 12 other cats and a drooler that needs to be let in and out as well. Plus we only have one vehicle that we need to be able to shift between both of us. With DH already having to get up and work a very heavy labor job sometimes 9-10 hours a day it just wasn't going to fly with me having to be up at 3am to be to work by 4am not to mention completely messing with Autumn's shot schedule.

So I'm back on the job hunt, and seriously thinking about making up some flyers to do pet sitting, and using the skills that I learned from my sugarbabies to be able to help with 'special needs" pet sitting...i.e. I can test blood glucose, I can give shots, I can give meds, I can give sub-q fluids, I can pill etc. And most importantly I can send daily text messages on updates on how their pet is doing...I'm not going to simply come in dump a bowl of dry food into front of your cat. clean the litter box and leave...I will if that is what you want but if you need someone that can take a little more time to play, give meds, test blood sugar etc I can do that too. So I guess I will see if it will fly, but figured with summer about to start this would be the perfect time to test the waters on working for myself, and still be able to set a schedule that works for my own family as well.

Re: 6/11 Autumn amps 111

Seems like a reasonable plan to me!

I worked a crisis hotline once that pulled them same kind of scheduling cr*p. It seems like no one understands shift work/sleep disruption issues; consistency of work cycles is needed to adapt to working odd hours such as nights or evenings. Rotating through several different times in the same week isn't good labor managemen!

Hi, Mel ~

Great amps number for Autumn, Mel!

Well, bummer on the new job. Don't blame you at all though for not putting up with that stupid scheduling sh*t, Mel. And I think you'll make a wonderful pet sitter. Heck, wish we lived closer so we could be your first customers. Butters and our other furry five would love you, I'm certain.

Take care,
Eva

So can't complain about her numbers today but I will be glad when I can get her shot schedule back to normal and the household can return to some semblence of normal again...everyone is still in limbo on feeding and shot etc while mom tries to go from being a owl back to being a lark again.

Sorry to hear that the job didn't work out due to management asking for unreasonable things. Work until 11 pm and come back and work at 4 am? WTF???? That is insane!

You'd be a GREAT pet sitter. And now is a good time to test the waters on this with summer vacations looming for people. Good luck to you on this!

Re: 6/11 Autumn amps 111, +5~55 :)

Thanks guys for the vote of confidence, but I know I got to thinking what do I do really well, and how do I take those talents and turn them into an income...well I take care of animals well...and now after having Maxwell, Musette and Autumn I have learned valuable skills to care for special needs which we all know are even harder to find in a pet sitter. And it doesn't have to be just diabetics, there are plenty of pets out there that need daily meds, fluids, shots etc. And not just for folks on vacation although I'm sure that is where the majority of business will come from at first, but also folks that work a couple of jobs, or just long or strange hours etc, they too could probably need a person to come in and handle things while they are away. As well as just walking dogs for the elderly or again the business professional.

Think how over-whelmed we all were when we first heard that we had a baby that needed to be given shots twice a day, I think we all wondered if we would ever get to go out for an evening again, or take a vacation etc. If this works out well, I would love to be able to expand enough to train a few good people to work for me as well, so I'm not doing it all myself and can focus on just part of the business or use the income to expand in other ways like toys, beds and collar etc, because I also love to crochet and sew. Okay I'l admit it, I want to be a boss, not have a boss...  I want to be able to take days off when I want to, and if I have enough advanced notice of when my DH's band is going to play I can let clients know that I'm not available such and such days. (and they usually book several months in advance so plenty of time to schedule days off).

I really don't need a lot of extra income, because DH makes good money between his day job and the band, but I would like to have some of my own money so I don't have to ask him when I want to buy him a gift or buy myself a new pair of shoes etc. And well even around here pet sitters make good money and not any of them that I know of do special needs and to board a special needs animal you are looking at paying through the nose because only the vet's will do it. And even then they aren't going to be checking BGs like I would, they aren't going to be playing with your pet or talking your dog for a nice walk or a game of frisbee, I will. And best of all you will have someone checking on your house and property, bringing in the mail, watering the plants and cleaning up the hairballs...lol And your baby gets to stay at home where they aren't all stressed out and being exposed to other sick animals.
