Deb, Jill did a much better explanation than I did in yesterday's condo of 'what you are doing is working, keep doing it for now'.


Jill had a good point on what we are doing for Lucian is strictly for Lucian. How about adding something to your Signature and maybe the SS that says something like this.

"Custom dosing with Lantus and R for Lucian only. "

This advice is strictly for Lucian. Please do not follow this for your cat.

Is it safe to give R or should I wait?? Waiting for advice, just in case.

Well- R is an in and out insulin so it should be out by +12. If you give it I wouldn't wait much longer- and only half the normal dose at that.

It's his +6 now. I don't know if I can make it any smaller, the plunger is against the zero line now.

if i were in your shoes i would hold off on the R for the moment. reason being, every once in awhile a kitty throws a high before a break. i don't think it's the case with lucian right now because i would expect the bounce to last a little longer, but there's a chance it could be happening. we *could* be seeing some sort of break through.

i would hold off using any R until +8 or +9. that will give you another few hours to get an idea where he's headed before shooting R.

i wanted to get that message posted before you gave any R, but came back to add...

if he IS throwing a high before a break (bounce clearing), you don't want to administer R as the bounce is breaking. you'd have too much downward momentum going and it might be hard to pull his numbers up if you had to.

Well sh*t. I know there was, at best, a couple tiny drops in the 'dead space'. ohmygod_smile I'll keep an eye on him and have my hypo kit, just hope it doesn't mess up whatever his body was doing, if anything. I wasn't too confident in his shot this morning, he was on my foot stool and I was half asleep. :sad: So I had my doubts already. Just have to wait and see now. cat(2)_steam

ok. it's probably nothing since you weren't confident in this morning's shot.
you have your meter to guide you. i'll be around today. after the whirl wind of activities around here the last several weeks i'm trying to get things organized before my work week resumes tomorrow. will check back with you later...
