Happy Caterday All, We seem to be hanging around again, Lucky not sure hat his plans are for the day.
He will get his wish for more cat for ad litter he is sending his bean to to store. There so needy.
Well bean has to tend to her low this morning not feeling well and no HC food just honey lol
Lucky is mad both ears hit capillaries made them bleed bad he poor ears are so poked.

Oh yes, he loves his liver and chicken and his mariners catch. He's partial to his Tidy cat for his litter he has allergies so he likes this one. Really as far as food he will eat anything better watch your fingers.MOL

Lucky could not wait almost pulled his bowl on the floor,he can pretty much eat it from there he is so tall. Well paws crossed for his next test time.

How much food should Lucky be getting,I sometimes go through 3 or more lg cans of Friskies or 6 sm ones for the 4 of them,really only 3 Foxy I'm gonna have to start giving her higher carb food she is really skinny now,this little girl only eats a teaspoon 3 times a day. She hate wet food unless FF I spend more for food then ever $80 for food $40 for cat litter.I hate rice and beans MOL they eat better then me. How do you guys do it with multi cats

I belive he is still about 18 lbs need to take him over and weight him but he is still heavy not so much fat

I figured he might have lost a pound, down to 17.

15 calories per pound +70
15 x17 = 255 +70 = 325
Each 5.5 ounce can of Friskies is around 185 calories
185 calories X 2 5.5 oz cans = 370 calories

You said you were feeding 3 cans a day so 185 X 3 = 555 calories. This is 70% more than his basic requirement of 325 calories.

Unregulated diabetic cats can require up to 50% more calories than when they are regulated ( low to mid 200's, with dips no lower than the 40's).

I think you may want to try cutting back on the food a bit. No more than 2.5 cans of the 5.5 oz cans of the Friskies. That would give him 462 calories a day, very close to the 487 calories he needs a day. With the treats he gets for testing, he'll easily be up to that 487 calories a day.

It's a balancing act between enough food so he isn't starving, enough insulin to process the food Lucky eats, and not so much food that it keeps his numbers high.

Being overweight can contribute to insulin resistance in a cat, as much as it can in a human. Especially with male cats for some reason from the research I have read.

Wink was in high numbers, 300's and 200's when I first started fostering him. He was still a bit overweight and I switched him to a low carb canned diet and was feeding him about 9-12 ounces of food a day. He lost almost 2 pounds and went OTJ in less than 2 months. I don't know how much of that success to contribute to the weight loss, how much was the better low carb food or if there were other factors.

Get your morning coffee and come back. You have to remember I'm on the opposite coast so I've been up for ages and ages. Bright eyed and busy tailed after already being up for 3 hours already. ;-) Not still half comatose like you slug-a-bed west coast women with that 3 hour time difference. ohmygod_smile

I'm not a morning person, but the kitty alarm clock starts at the crack of dawn, with kitties walking up my calf and thigh to peer into my face. I made them let me lay in bed for an extra 40 minutes this morning.
