I do have a spreadsheet for him. Isn't it in my signature? Or, did I mess up?

I just spent a half an hour on and off with a rice sock and 6 little or no blood sticks AFTER he hid under the bed in protest for an hour or so. I think he and I both need a little break. I will make sure to at least get his preshot.

I didn't think about this, but Tommy actually peed in a brand new litter box with NO gravel the other day. That was kind of hilarious since it was new and we were about to go get it ready. Maybe he will give a repeat performance.

No, it's not coming up. First go to your copy of the ss. In the RH corner, choose Share to Anyone with the Link.
Then in the LH corner, choose Publish to the Web and Start Publishing. The url that comes up in the box is the one you put in your signature.

What size lancets are you using? The 30/31 gauge that humans use are usually too fine for cats at first. 25-27 gauge work better, until their ears "learn to bleed"

I see! My signature was too long. I thought I did it twice. I pasted that huge URL in there. Now I have a goo.gl URL for it.

I am using 28 gauge lancets. The lancets get a good test, but I have problems in my right hand that make it harder to take aim so I don't always get him well.
I do a little better with a lancing device without the cap on.

I do have some very good news though!
It is not where I want it to be exactly, but his glucose test i got just a few minutes ago was 288! It's coming down!

I can tell he feels better too because he has been laying in my lap on his back with his paws around my forearm licking me again.
The vet visit he was supposed to have today was for another blood sugar test. I can handle some cattitude and getting cat blood shaken on me a lot better than giving him over to someone who doesn't know much about it and wants ridiculous amounts of money to pretend she does. LOL!

Hey Karen! Good to see you here & glad Tommy's # tonight is lower. Have you already given his PM shot & if so was that # before his shot with not food in the last 2 hrs?

And BTW, no one here is gonna laugh at anything you say....unless you are telling a joke! Everyone wants to help you help your cat and it's pretty stressful when you first start out. So say whatever you want!

That was 7 hours after insulin so pretty impressive (I think.) and no recent food other than a couple of bites of turkey.

Good job on getting those #'s! It will get easier....I remember thinking I would never get Thumper's ears to bleed & now I don't even have to warm them up. It looks like you reduced his dose back to 1 unit this morning? But we don't know what his pre shot # was? I'm not sure where you should go with the dose....you want to keep his numbers down due to the DKA but also don't want to over dose. Sue, what do you think? And Karen, it would be better if you stay with the same dose for a few days so we can see how it's gonna work.

There are some Vet Interview Topics linked in my signature (yeah, it happens that often.)

The 1 was when my boyfriend gave him his shot because I was finally asleep and he forgot to do 1.5.
Last night's spike was because he and my other cat Weezie decided to climb and open the TOP cabinet, get to the second shelf in the kitchen. (These cats are related to Macguyver or something) and pull down and open treats that were double bagged in grocery bags and in their own bag. SILENTLY.
I would not have even known had I not got this sneaking suspicion that I needed to check downstairs.

I got a 312 reading this morning 2 hours after his 1.5 shot.

Would it help to change your scheduled shot time so you can get a test before each shot? You really don't want to shoot blind. He may surprise you some am especially if he slipped low overnight.

Congrats on the spreadsheet. That will help you see his patterns.

How about starting a new thread? Most people here post with their amps daily and get input.

My boyfriend is learning how to do the cat's blood sugar test too!
He just isn't used to doing blood tests at all. He will soon be able to get the cat's morning reading.
He is on night shift and my sleep schedule is with him sometimes and with my work a few days of the week and sometimes no schedule works at all. So, we both have to be able to do it.
I have his spreadsheet up good now.

Oh! Good news too.
I think we have found a new vet.
Cheaper and his receptionist seems more knowledgeable about feline diabetes than the vet I am seeing now.
She actually knows what Lantus is and they support home testing.

Great on finding a new vet! I'm glad things are going better for both of you! Like Sue said start a new thread with his numbers & you can get some help on dosing if you would like. Keep us posted!
