Last night jellybean was not wanting to eat after testing, so i gave him 5 temptation treats. he used to get them whenever he wanted before he was diagnosed. he was visibly excited to have the treats and even drooled a bit. =) then he ate most of his food and i gave him his shot. it went so smooth. I know it's 2 calories per treat, no idea how to tell about the carbs. This could be the trick to taking his glucose level AND getting him to eat. Is this ok? I've tried about 5 packages of low carb treats and he wants nothing to do with them.
Thanks for any advice!

Freeze dried treats that only contain one ingredient (the meat or fish) is zero carb and fine to feed to a diabetes

Or you can even give him small pieces of baked or boiled chicken breasts ,boil it in only water

I also did a search on our site and found this posted by a member
The other treat is just steamed chicken, or boiled chicken. All I do is get chicken breasts, steam them, then dice the chicken into tiny cubes. I do a big batch then put them into small 1cup containers and freeze them. I always have a small cup of chicken in the frig because she may want something to eat in the 2hrs before her shots and she can't be fed, so she settles for a few of the chicken cubes.

ok thanks, will keep looking. =) he just looked so happy, i thought it might make shot time easier. =) he won't eat real chicken, he hates people food. I don't remember reading that they can't eat for 2 hours before their shot?

Yes you can not feed 2 hours before you test first thing in the morning the AMPS and same goes for the PMPS because you don't want those tests to be influenced by the food
@Carriecae
Are you going to be setting up our spreadsheet soon?
Maybe you will find something else for Jellybean on that link I sent you

I've been telling people for years Temptations have sugar. I just checked my one bag, creamy dairy flavor, and don't see any sugar or sugar substitutes. Lots of weird chemicals, chlorine and shriveled up cheese but no sugar.

The only way you can know if Temptations are a problem is to test your cat, give JellyBean a Temptation or two, wait 30 min, and re-test. If your cat's BG level goes up, they are a problem. In general, we don't recommend Temptations.

My kitty loves temptations, and ai only keep a bag in the house in case he goes hypoglycemic and refuses to eat. Mazi loves them so much that I know if he doesn't eat them, is a huge red flag and time to go to the hospital for a possible pancreatitis flare up.

However, a couple nights ago, I caved bc hes been doing so good with his lifestyle change, I decided to give him 3 little pieces.

They spiked his sugar over 45 points. I said to myself, definitely not doing that again, and will only be saving them for emergencies.
