? 5/9 Minnie PMPS 300 ketone 0.3 - R? +3.5 383

I feel like a hypochondriac! Last night was fine (except for the - pardon the pun - cat napping on the sofa).

Today she has been fussy with food all day long. I know to expect appetite to go down when BG goes down, but my immediate response is to panic if she doesn't want to eat. She refused everything she's been eating lately (so I am drowning in bowls of food options!) - I got an ondasetron melt in her mouth. She hated me. I have to hold her still for what seems like forever so it dissolves before she spits it out. I needed to go out but wanted to be sure she would eat and not have plunging numbers, so I pulled out the big guns and gave her a little AD which she ate, thank goodness. I know it is MC but I prefer she ate that to nothing.

Came back with 10 cans of darcines from Trader Joe's to find an interesting semi-digested diarrhea pile on the floor, similar to what she did before the hospital stay, I'm wondering if this is related to the suspected pancreatitis? Anyway she happily scarfed down her darcine and just started sniffing around for food, so perhaps she is feeling better.

Otherwise...I am THRILLED with the ketone drop. One less thing to worry about!

Yes! I saw the ketone in your title! Very happy to see it. That's so weird about the poop that appears semi-digested? I do remember you mentioning it before. Good thing for Darcines!

Gah, time to vent. The cat sitter (from the vet) I had arranged for next weekend just texted to say she has to bail because she is an emergency cat foster and received some kittens that need bottle feeding every 3-4hrs. She gave me details of a friend who also sits and works at the Seattle Animal Shelter, who I just spoke with and has given insulin before (and fluids and other stuff) but has not tested blood sugar - can stay one night but not both.

Now worried that she's not experienced with diabetics. If I can find someone else with diabetic experience I shall take them instead, but what's opinion here? Ok to pay someone to drop in who doesn't know much about diabetics, just give the shot, feed and leave? Just when I had some peace of mind, it's all up in the air. I will check tomorrow if there's anyone else available at the vet.

Sorry to hear Minnie is being finicky about food. I freak out whenever Ruby doesn't eat too. Thank god for ondansetron (I've popped a few in Ruby the past few days). There should be a support group for DKA CGs to deal with our trauma. Oh yeah, we're in one. ;)

You might want to ask your vet or any other ones local to you if a vet tech would be willing to come twice a day to check on Minnie. I found a great guy who's willing to come and help if I am out of town. I am not sure he knows how to test but just by the way he is able to handle Ruby with such confidence while giving her subQ, I have no doubt he'd get the hang of testing very quickly. She basically stays frozen when he's around, so he can do anything to her. A vet tech might charge more than a sitter per se, but it would be peace of mind for you. :bighug:

Thank you! The person I'd found was from my vet :banghead: - not a tech there, but had been one. Her recommended friend/replacement works at the animal shelter...I just don't know if I'm being too fussy that she said she doesn't have experience with diabetics. I am sure she would easily learn to do the BG tests because she's given fluids etc, but I am just feeling overprotective and want someone who knows what to look out for with a diabetic. If I can't find someone I will go with her...but I had just got comfortable with the idea of someone associated with the vet!

Understand wanting to be overprotective. Ruby's on a tiny dose of insulin and I have trouble letting my lovely partner take over her care (I would trust him with my life, but somehow, not with hers!:rolleyes:) I'm sure you will be able to find the person who can set your mind at peace so you can run your heart out without worrying.

That's a jump. Should I be giving a dash of R? I hesitate after last 2 cycles but I think according to the 'rules' she just squeaks in for getting 0.25u

Thanks for answering, Bhooma :bighug:.

Here I've been recommended either R at PS or mid-cycle which is +5/+6 but you then have to monitor every hour for the next 4 hours...so for Minnie's BG it would probably make sense for me to stay up another hour, re-test and maybe give the R then test every hour. For my sanity and her poor little ears, I will cross my fingers for better numbers in the morning. This seems quite a big bounce for a not-very-big drop today - or could it be delayed bouncing from last night's greens?

thank you!
