Literally....I am up at 4:30 am, he is under the chair in the locked room, peed on the chair (uti?)and bloody poo in the laundry basket. He was going behind chairs in living room and on my bdrm rug.
I am scared for him. He is growling at me and his eyes look crazy. I am not sure if I can describe that one, but not the usual look.
He is not eating as usual. I also have no idea what is BG's have been because he is less than affectionate.

I also had to throw out a shelf my dad made, Hisser got locked in with Momma and sprayed that. The smell was lovely to say the least.

I have my alarm set for 08:30am to give Insulin to Mickey and will call the vet. He really isn't feeling well. The vet already told my friend he has no idea what to do with him, I think I need another one. Which is sad, because he does help me with the load of cats that I do have.

I have been giving Mickey pepsid for the past few days hoping it would calm his stomach down with no results.

Pamela, I did order the feline's pride food. He will not eat it. I even mixed with his regular food. He covers it up like it is poo.

I am also trying to trap a feral out back, his whole face is ripped off from his eye to cheek and the skin is hanging still. I think I need a vacation or a cocktail at this point..

I wonder if his stress levels have now turned into Cystitis? As Dr. Lisa has pointed out so many times blood in the urine does not necessarily mean a UTI. If you do take him into the vet be sure they get a urine sample through a cystocentesis as Dr. Lisa explains here (please read the whole link on what exactly cystitis is). If after running the culture through the lab they don't find any bacteria, then antibiotics are not needed, but mainly just giving pain meds until there is improvement on it own.

Dr. Lisa on Cystitis

"Before considering the use of antibiotics in cystitis patients, a culture and sensitivity (C & S), in addition to a standard urinalysis, should be run on urine obtained via cystocentesis. This involves a needle going through the abdominal wall, directly into the bladder. This sounds much worse than it really is. The patient does not feel the needle going in but, instead, may simply object to being held on his or her back.

'Free-catch' urine samples (urine voided onto an exam table or into a litter box) should not be used for a C & S due to the issue of contamination which will often give a false positive result. In other words, bacteria will grow on the culture that may not even be in the patient's bladder or kidney.

The 'culture' part of this test shows if an infection exists or not. The 'sensitivity' part of the test is run only if a bacterial colony grows. This half of the tests tells us which antibiotic is the best one to choose for the type of bacteria that was grown."

Also, one of many threads where Dr. Lisa talks about this:

I wish Dawn had been able to convince him that eating the raw food could probably help his stomach. It did take me a while to switch Tigger over, just putting a very small amount in with his canned food. He used to do that thing too like Mickey where he would try to cover it up - actually did the same thing with a lot of canned foods - but he eventually learned to eat it.

What did you think about giving Thomas the prozac instead but of course you would need to ask your vet.

Or maybe consider spirit essences? They have one called Bully Remedy. Dr. Jean Hofve recommends these very highly. You might find one that would help Mickey too with his inappropriate peeing and pooping.

Bless you for taking care of that poor feral cat. You have such a huge heart Peggy.

I'm so sorry that MIckey has become such a hand full. I wonder like Pamela if the stress is making him sick with cystitis and/or colitis. The vet asked me about stress in the home when we talked about Gandalf's bloody poo. She said colitis can be a reaction because of stress. It's like they internalize everything.

Not sure how to help with the raw food. I have to syringe feed it to Gandalf, but that is because I allowed the clinic to feed him once when he got sick right after I gave him his shot, I could not rely on him to eat on his own and I had to go to work. He was having a pancreatitis flare then. The clinic had a male tech at the time, who was fine as far as I was concerned, but right after that, Gandalf refused to eat off the syringe like he was willing to do before that. I don't think he was abused, just forced to do something by a stranger he didn't want to do.

There are additives you can sprinkle on food such as Fortiflora and F-Biotic, the latter is what I use, it's available form Pet Food Direct and is made by Wysong. It's a supplement and taste enhancer. It might help him sample the food at least. My cats love it.

Do you have time before you have to do anything to Mickey to pet him and talk to him? I am finding my crabby old lady Tigget is really responding to more attention. She is less aggressive toward the other cats. Or maybe Thomas needs that? After I wrote about those books I tried remembering some of the things I read in there and one of the things it talked about was quality of interaction with their human.

I hope you get some answers from the vet, but don't be afraid to seek out another vet who's willing to give Mickey as much help as you try so hard to give. Any chance there's a cats only clinic near enough to not be a hardship on Mickey or you?

let us know how it goes tomorrow. :YMHUG:

Peggy, I am really sorry that things are so bad for Mickey - and, by extension, for you.

You got some good ideas from Pamela and Vicky and I really don't have anything new to add. It does seem like stress (if the vet can not find anything going on). I would try the prozac and/or calming scents. One of those might just do the trick.

Good luck with that feral. He must be in a lot of pain.
