    Amps 318 Libre

    Good morning,
We begin with a big jump up to pink today after a pretty flat night.

I fed 12.5% last night at dinner since we went out to dinner. She was already high and I probably could have fed her the normal 6% but I’m always afraid when I go out for about two hours at the beginning of a cycle not to give her higher carbs to keep her safe.
I just never know if she’s gonna do an early dip, even though she was high to begin the cycle.

What would you do if you saw her that high, would you feed the higher carbs or would you stick with lower carbs and leave, just curious? :bookworm:

Have a safe day everyone :cat:

Personally, I would stick with LC and see what she was when I got home. Different story if I would be gone for many more hours but not just for 2 hours. I've learned my guy is pretty resilient though. He's a tough old man. ;)

Same, I would stick with LC. I don’t feed her until +2, so if I came back that fast I would not do anything different. I leave higher carb food for her if she is in the 50s or went down a lot at +3.

    Hi Staci,
Hindsight is always 20/20 - I can see the anxiety about leaving her particularly when, like Mikan, you just can't predict what the girl will do.
Maybe higher LC will be the compromise? But the safety first and you have to feel good (or at least okay) about going out.
This balancing act of taking care of our babies and having some remembrance of life can be tricky!
Looks like she's on her way down already - wishing you a safe and dark greenish cycle! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I mean, I feed 2 different higher LC in the +1 hour if she's over 150, but that's just where we currently are in the current feed thing we're doing. But I also know that she's very likely to do a steep AF drop between +1 and +2 and that she nadirs hecking early. I might have gone with the 9% that you use instead of 12, especially since the libre numbers are typically higher, but as human Kit said, hindsight is 20/20, and you have to make a choice in that moment. And I have frequently made a choice that should have gone the other way (but I've also frequently made a choice that ended up being a good one), and it's probably better to err on the side of caution. :bighug:

Thanks, Heather. I usually get home just after +3 to +3.75, so if she’s gonna dive, it can happen in that time while I’m out if she has an early dip.
    That’s what always worries me.
I’m glad Shooter is more resilient!

Exactly, Kit. You have to make the call before hand so it’s always trying to predict!
I do think she is coming down today.
Wishing you a safe surf for Mikan also :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yes, Alicia! I always err on the side of caution just since I may be a half hour away and that always worries me.

Last night I was close to home had the Libre to watch her. She was high to start, so I probably could’ve gone with 9%.

But it’s always that hindsight, where I think.. well I could’ve stayed lower carb but you just never know. Like Kit, Ivy can take a very early and fast dip between +1+2 and I would be nowhere near getting home by then if that were the case, so it’s always a crapshoot. ;)
    Thanks for your input!!

Ive actually stopped feeding the M to HC even when it drops below 50. Karamelle has shown to bounce back up with the regular LC feeding (if its in the 30's I'll give honey). But of course every cat is different. Ivy seems to bounce up and down like Karamelle does. Still trying to figure that one out.

Ivy does not respond to LC. It maybe gives her a tiny bump but it's very temporary, like 20 minutes. If she's dropping fast I need higher carbs to slow her, and still sometimes nothing stops her, but as you said, ECID:)

I think the key with this illness is to really know your cat. You are doing such a great job with Ivy. :bighug:

I can't answer your question. We've not been in those shoes yet. But it seems you've got a good grasp of Ivy's peculiarities. Heeding your gut instincts at the time is probably a pretty good choice. ;)

Hope you and Ivy have a nice smooth night.

Can you share what your 2 LC foods are and their %'s? I only have FF pate (2 - 3%) and FF grilled (12 - 13%). I'm having a hard time finding (and them eating) anything in between.

So in knowing this, then yes, err on the side of caution. Shooter RARELY EVER even begins to drop before +4. You know your cat best and you're doing a great job. ;)

    For sure!
I use Friskies turkey and giblets (5%) and Friskies mariner's catch (6%) when her pre shots are below 150 (at least that's the theory, if she's closer to 100 I might use the 7% I have because she likes her drops). The 7% is Weruva mideast feast (unfortunately it's pricier - a case of 24 is $42 on chewy, but a can also lasts me several days because it's not her whole meal). The 9% is BFF Tuna and Chicken Charm Me - it's a pouch, so it's already got a decent amount of water added, so again, not as price friendly per ounce as something like FF or Friskies, but that and the 7% weruva were the only ones I could find locally to try out before I started buying bulk. But as with the weruva, a pouch can last me several days because it's not her whole meal. She's so picky and I didn't want to buy a bunch of something then not have her like it. I have a list of others I want to check out once I have more time this summer, too.
    I hope that helps!
