Hi Everyone-
I didn't give an update yesterday because I was tired and since I had done virtually nothing all week except focus in Boomer I had to catch up.

WCR: Seems good I think-definitely better. No puking since he's been home. He's eating but being very challenging (fussy). He's pooping so I know the stomach motility drug is working. I bought him a new toy today that he's obsessed with, so much so that I saw him take it to the LB with him. This means I'll find it in the food and water bowls. That's what he does with toys he likes.

Last night I finally tried the Instincts powder samples I got with partially cooked chicken. He ate "some" of it. ??? I went out today and bought more foods that are grain-free and chunky. He will not touch any of the Merrick food which smells and looks great. So weird. He does eat the .38 cents a can Sophisticat food though, I don't feel bad about throwing that out if he doesn't eat all of it.

I'm trying to live in the moment and not do the "what if's". I'm going to get his test results Tuesday. I'm trying not to obsess over it too much. I'm going to a family thing today-my niece Morgan's 6th b-day party and to see me 3 week old nephew and my mom will be there for mother's day. I need a diversion from worry. My father thinks I'm nuts and it's annoying. "I wouldn't care enough about any pet to spend that much money" etc. Grrrr.
Thanks once again to all of you incredible people for caring about us this week. It's helped us more than you know.

Lastly-I tested him last night at 12AM and he was 164. I was so sad. I got up at 3 AM to test and he was 88. The 164 may have been from his eating. I need to watch this because he is eating higher carb foods. It's exhausting.

Hang in there, Traci, you're doing great! Good to hear that Boomer is improving. Enjoy your day with your family. Just tell your dad that Boomer is doing well and don't go into the details that he doesn't want to hear!!

I'm glad Boomer is doing better, and you are getting out a bit today. I have family telling me to "put those cats out of their misery", so I know how you feel.

Good news for you!

My father-in-law said, when we told him about Vesta's diagnosis... "Well, you know what WE'D do..." And I thought, wow... Remember that phrase when they're old and need help from us :-x Everyone is entitled to make their own decisions on how to handle a situation- as family, you don't have to agree, just give love and support!

Hi Tracy & Boomer - thanks for the update as you both have been on our minds. Boomer sounds much better & is playing, very good news. Easy to say & hard to do but hang in there. I remember my Mom used to say she was concerned if my older sister ever had to take care of her because out of convenience my sister might suggest PTS rather than TLC. You might suggest to your Dad he's lucky he has someone like you in the family because he already knows how you will respond in one's hour of need. ;-)

Happy Mom's Day to one of the best!

I'm with Jamie (Weather Girl) and Susan -- your family should be thankful you are such a caring and devoted person whether it's to Boomer or them.

It's great to hear that Boomer is playing. You'll find food that he'll settle on. It's just another one of those "patience" things.

I agree with all the others who said your dad should be glad you are so caring and concerned. I know it must be hard to hear things like that from him, though. I am glad Boomer liked his new toy; that is cute that he carried it to the LB. :-D

(((Traci and Dave and Boomer))) Sending healing vines to Boomer and relaxation vines to you. You are doing so great, Traci, you really are.

Glad Boomer is better....what kind of toy did you get him? I would love to find something that mine would enjoy....
screw what other people say....we understand...they don't. You are such a good Mama Bean and Boomer loves you...enjoy your day today! HUGS :YMHUG:

Traci,

I'm glad Boomer is feeling better and I think it's adorable that he brings his favorite toys EVERYwhere with him.

There will always be folks that think we're idiots for spending so much time, effort and money on "just a cat". I could buy a new car for what this week cost me, but I couldn't think of a better way to spend my money than to help my best friend. Let the other folks buy "stuff", we'll help our friends/children.

Traci - my kitties LOVE Tiki Cat. Might be worth trying if you can find some. They are pretty heavy on the fish flavors, but they have some chicken. Looks good enough for a human to eat. Give Boomer some good scritches.

Nice to such a positive report. It's your business on how much you spend caring for your cat. I had some jokes made by my family when I had Rat(GA) which pissed me off, because I never comment on how they spend their money. Or tell them what I would do in certain situations, unless they ask.

Take Care,

Sandy Dottie & Skippy

Hi, Traci -- so glad Boomer is doing better!

I don't know if your dad has any hobbies or special interests... but no one could do better with their time than put love into life, and that's what you do with Boomer. o:-) Love is never lost. It is always a positive way to spend energy.

You take care of yourself, too. Keep your spirits up; Boomer is getting better, and will be better still before you know it!

(((((Traci & Boomer))))) :YMHUG:

I was hoping to see a Boomer update - thanks for letting us know. That is so cute about Boomer and his toy. He must be feeling better. Try not to think about Tuesday, it will be here before you know it. Just enjoy your day and enjoy Boomer.

Hang in there Traci my Father is the same way about pets it took me begging till the age of 12 to finally get a kitten I have been making up for that since I think anyway you have fun at your get-together and so happy that Boomer seems to be doing better so you I was thinking of you last night actually and searched for a Boomer condo update and did not see one of course so happy you checked in with us ((((((hugs))))))

Nice Boomer report, Traci! I'm so glad he is doing better. Hope you have a great time at your get-to!

Glad to see that Boomer is feeling better. Paws crossed for the results on Tuesday. Raw could be a really good choice for him. Cute about the toy. Tess never cares about them :? and I'd love to spoil her even more with toys.

It's hard with your Dad's attitude, but you are doing what you know is right. You are a good, caring person, Someday he will learn that he is lucky that you are.

Enjoy your day and have fun w/ Boomer. We need pix. :-D

Im so glad to hear that boomer is doing better! Half of my family thinks that me and peter are crazy for taking care of mocha to the extent we do, but who cares? These cat's are our kids, and if they were two legged and had special needs do you think then they would be saying the stuff they say? Some people just don't get it!

Glad to hear Boomer is improving and has a toy he loves. I wish I could think of something witty to say concerning your family's attitude - after all, didn't your gift of showing love partly come from them?

Glad the BG came down. Honestly, I wouldn't get too concerned over one BG number - remember he went through a lot this week and is still recovering. Also, if you are feeding higher carb food, that certainly could have caused the number.

The important thing here is that he eat, so higher carb or no, whatever he will eat is what you need to focus on. If his Bg's go up and stay too high for your liking, well you know what to do, a little shot of insulin may be needed. It's ok if it is, and hopefully it will only be a short trip back to the falls.

Chin up....ok

Boomer seemed to have had a great day while I was gone! He's been visiting his food bowls all evening and ate well while I was gone. We're playing it cool, but everytime I see him eating I am thrilled. And NO PUKE! OMG!!! :-D But...as I said...we're playing it cool. And he's pooping to so it's coming through. Thank goodness. He looks good!

Next time I hear any crap about spending time and money on my cat I'll remind them that they'd be lucky to have me taking care of them too. My mother totally understands but it's my father who doesn't.

Boomer likes feathers. The toy I got him is essentially a short fat stick with featehrs on both ends. He growls while walking around with it in his mouth. THe last one I bought him only lasted one day because he dropped it in his water bowl then brought it to the LB with him so it got covered in litter and it caked on. I had to chuck it. The only toys he plays with by himself are the kind with feathers.

So good to hear Boomer's eating and playing...very good signs. The food thing is the most frustrating aspect of IBD! Right now, I wouldn't worry about what he's eating, just get him to eat. Once you know what you're dealing with, you can get him on the right medications. Once he's feeling better, he'll be more likely to eat better foods. We're rotating flavors for Logan - that seems to help quite a bit. We're also putting freeze dried chicken dust on top when he gets a little fussy. He gives us that "look" and we go for the dust.

And to hell with what everyone thinks - it's your money and he's your family! I would be debt free if I didn't spend so much on my animals, but you know what?! I'd be pretty miserable without them and I couldn't live with myself if I didn't do everything I possibly could for them.

One more update...how did I miss this? Boomer's been OTJ for over a month now-his annifursary was Friday the 7th. I hope we can keep this going!

The good news is that I'm finding more and more grain-free food to try. Today is was Blue Buffalo. He still likes the cheapest one the best! I'm lucky I guess!
