5/8 Monty BG 75 cystitis

Monty was struggling to urinate this morning, only a few drops at a time and was revisiting his tray repeatedly.

After speaking to the vet they asked to see him urgently. I measured his BG at 75 before leaving for the vet. Vet found minor inflammation around penis. She discharged him on the basis that she doesn't believe there is a blockage and he was likely only urinating a few drops was due to pain. She felt his bladder was empty.

She suspects cystitis and asked me to bring a urine sample in when I can. He's been given an oral painkiller and a drug called cystophan to help with the cystitis.

He's urinated normally since the vet visit so likely he struggled due to pain. I've been advised it will likely clear up with 4-5 days but I'm to continue with painkillers (metacam) and cystophan for now.

My civvie Budge used to get episodes of Idiopathic Cystitis. They can be triggered by stress. If you Google it, the usual treatment is just to manage the symptoms. Episodes can be painful so it's good your vet gave you a painkiller.

Some people use anti-anxiety collars and/or diffusers to manage stress. Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements are supposed to help by strengthening the bladder wall (or something like that). Cartrophen injections (Pentosan Polysulphate Sodium) are also supposed to help. They are usually given for arthritis... but also help with FLUTD.

Was a urinalysis not done to rule out UTI?

I agree with what @Bandit's Mom has said about the possible cause of Monty’s bladder issue. It sounds very similar to what Sheba used to get and she was eventually diagnosed with FLUTD and was treated in the way Bhooma has described.
I found stress definitely triggered episodes.
It can be very painful. Sheba would find it very hard to pee for several hours and be in and out of the LB. Then she would start to do a few drops at a time then gradually a bit more. Sometimes pee just dribbled out as she was lying there. Episodes lasted a few days.

My civvie Theo also had idiopathic cystitis. It's good you managed to get into the vet so quickly. Next time you are there, you might want to see if they can show you how to tell if the bladder is empty. It is less urgent if so. My Theo also got Çerenia for it's anti-inflammatory properties. The Cystophan looks like a good product with the GAG and hyraluronic acid both in it.

Other things that were helpful for me were Feliway diffusers and making sure there was plenty of water added to his food. Once I got the water balance right, he stopped having episodes. On the Catinfo website, Dr. Pierson mentions also trying lower phosphorus food.
