Will test at +2 and +5 or 6 today. Hope everyone, including all of our little sentient beings have a great day!

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424

Joe, I saw your question yesterday about treats. Whisker Lickins have wheat flour and corn gluten, so you want to avoid those. But there are low carb treat options--anything that's just meat is low carb. If you have a Petsmart near you, I buy these for Bandit: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751598. They're in the cat treat section. I get the Salmon and the Chicken ones (he doesn't like the freeze-dried Shrimp for some reason). They also have 100% freeze dried treats in a lot of independently own pet food stores that sell the premium cat foods, or you can look in the dog treat section of PetCo or Petsmart. You can also order freeze dried meat treats online from many different places.

The Fancy Feast Appetizers are all low carb, and Bandit get's half of one of those per day as a treat when I remember to buy them. You can also boil or grill chicken and use that as a treat, too. Any meat that's not fried or covered in sauce is fine to use.

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424

Morning Joe. I hope to see Jinx clearing his bounce today nice and easy. Great idea to get the +2 and then a +5/+6.

When we started out, we'd do a +2, +6, +10 one day and then a +2, +5, +9 kind of look at things the next based on a suggestion by a more experienced member. It helped us build data in the early days.
I think you will find eventually, that a +10 and +11 can be very helpful because we'll be able to see whether Jinx is one that gets a second dip or not. But it's not necessary right now to do the extra test
if he is in a bounce like this.

I used the Whole Life Chicken freeze dried treats. Unfortunately, they are a little more expensive than the Pure Bites but my cats won't eat the Pure Bites  :? I order the Whole Life online in
the 21 oz bags which makes it cheaper.

Have a great day....and Jinx...show us what you got!

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424

Hi guys .. ok jinx, come on down please! We use the freeze dried chicken treats for mocha, she goes wild over them .. we have to constantly move them around in the kitchen when she isn't in there, other wise she just hangs out at that cupboard door ohmygod_smile have a great day guys!

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317

Just took his BG at +2 and it was 317. Giving him some tuna fish now to see if it mellows out. I'll plan on checking the level at +5 unless advised otherwise. Thanks again for all the help and encouragement everyone.

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317

Really appreciate the info on treats and the importance of getting a +2 and suggestions on how to vary times too!

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317

Nice drop there Jinx! Slow it down a little. I like the +2 a lot so you can see if he is dropping fast, like he is now. Have a great day Joe!

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317

Hi guys, you're doing fine. Wellness makes a low carb jerky treat for cats: turkey & salmon and chicken & rabbit.

Nice to see Jinx heading lower,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317, +5 238

May take another reading at +6. Gave a little bit more tuna fish to try to keep him from going much lower.

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317, +5 238

He really is responding very well to the insulin. His liver just freaks out when he drops so low so fast and causes him to shoot way up again. It will take time, but Mr. Liver will chill out somewhat. Of course, Tarragon still has bounces over a year at this, but they are not near that severe. I would be interested to see what a +6 or +8 is like and see where his nadir is. In a perfect world, it would be at +6, but ECID so it could be at +5 or +8 and it could change from day to day. Crazy huh?

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317, +5 238

That is crazy... They definitely don't make it easy for us :-). I'll get a +6 reading but have to take off for a few hours after that. Thank-you for following Jinx's progress and for all of your help.

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317, +5 238, +6 265

I'm assuming I caught him around his nadir today at +5. Real glad he didn't get into the hundreds today (thanks tuna fish). Will be back around +11 time...

Joe

Nice cycle today! A little lower tomorrow maybe, Jinx?

Could I please ask a couple housekeeping favors?

1. Each day, we ask that you link the previous day's condo in your first post. That allows the early birds to go back and see what might have transpired the night before and is just good information for those making suggestions to you.
The way to do it is go to the previous day's condo, copy the browser address, open a "new topic" to start the current day's condo, put your cursor in the text box, click on the "URL" tab above the text box, and then paste the browser address
you copied in between the boxes so it will look like this: PASTE BROWSER ADDRESS HERE
Here is your condo from yesterday: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=70469

2. Could you please do a profile for us on Jinx? This gives us alot of information in one, quick, easy to access place. It's especially important that we know when he was dx, other health issues, etc. That might also free up some space in your signature block if you like. Here's the link to creating a profile: Creating a Profile

It has a lot of steps but it's actually pretty easy. Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks, Joe!

Re: 5/8 Jinx AMPS 424, +2 317, +5 238, +6 265

Will do Marjorie. If I don't get around to the profile tonight, I'll do it tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know.

Gave him a little extra food mid-day to try to prevent him from going to low. Could the extra food have contributed to the high PMPS?

depends on what it was and how much volume he got. if it was a bite of tuna or some other straight meat, i doubt that would do anything. if it was a couple of ounces of higher carb cat food, yes, it might.
