Good morning All!
Leo and Molly have a new little brother! My birthday was the lucky day for me AND for a special little kitty named GRUNDA (???) at the other St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center. Mako is nearly 9 months old and a brave carefree playful guy whole purrs like a MOTORBOAT and climbs all over me, smearing my face and glasses with his nose and marking me as mommy. He was so frantic and crying the first day. I slept with him the first night and he bounced all over, and burrowed under the covers with me ::swoon!:: It took a while to get pictures because he WON'T SIT STILL! Like Sienne and others said, the cat will pick you. We looked at all 25ish cats but this one kept us coming back. He was a tad younger than we were considering, but when we went to the visit room, he played and it's clear he's a pretty smart guy, and we like funny smart cats. We also looked at Brian who I really liked too (and may have been really good in other ways as a 3 y/o mellower cat who would appear to have more a calming effect but still keep Leo in line). But Mako was the heart string puller. I really hope it's all not too much for Molly, and I hope Leo isn't too aggressive with him in the end.
It felt so wonderful to walk out of the shelter on my birthday. We didn't intend to adopt without looking around more. We brought no carrier and had no extra LB, etc. All Leo's stuff in my apartment (which we would have used) is still in my apartment!!! So Mako got all new stuff, and lots of toys. He is in my son's room, and he will be there for at least a week before we start any face-to-face. Molly has no clue he is here. Leo has heard the crying and is very wary and out-of-sorts. I feel bad for him. We tried putting food bowls on opposite sides of the closed door. Mako went to town on his; Leo RAN AWAY from sliced scallop. And we all know how Leo LOVES sliced scallop. We caught him and took him to HIS sanctuary room and then he cautiously ate some of it. So....we will have to go very slowly because Leo is in his scaredy-cat mode. It may take a while to get Leo to eat comfortably in the foyer upstairs even many FEET from the door. DH will be doing that this week - I have to leave for work shortly.
We tossed so many names around and none of them we agreed on, or stuck. We settled on Max, but I make love names and "Maxie" wasn't going to cut it. I'd always being thinking "Maxi Pads" when I did it.   DH fishes and was really pushing for Mako, as in Mako Shark. The sound of the name sounds good on him - it sounds a little Japanese-ish. It's feeling like a good name. I love the little boy already!
So here is our new little boy. He looks a lot like Leo (not planned) and he acts a lot like Leo except he doesn't have the outdoor wariness and attack mode Leo had to develop being in the wild. I bought the book Sienne recommended about thinking like a cat and I have your integration stories.
