5/7 Oldtimer Beethoven report

Beethoven is still doing great. I stopped in here briefly yesterday and was dismayed to see a couple of one-time OTJers back on the juice. I know Marco has been back for a light tune-up, but then Jesse and now Guinness. I immediately checked Beethoven's BG yesterday and it was 106 after breffus. This morning he was back to 72 before breffus. Remember, we use AlphaTrak. I generally check his BG about once a month, and I haven't seen anything worrisome. But you just never know. He has been OTJ for 19 months now.

I wonder if any studies have been done showing how many diabetic kitties that go OTJ eventually go back on and how long it takes. I understand a medical problem could certainly cause it, but if not that, then what?

I am so glad you all are here, and I can just drop in any time. Those of you who have been doing this for a long time, as in several years, I don't know how you do it. When Beethoven went OTJ, I kind of missed the daily routine and posted less and less frequently. As much as I like and admire you, I don't particularly want to come back here on a daily basis. We like it too much at the falls.

Nice to see you!! Things have changed a lot here in LL, but you know FD is unpredictable, so there is no rhyme or reason for kitties coming back from OTJ--We just have learned to live with it and if we need to do what we do , to have healthy happy kitties, it's worth every moment-that is the Sugar Dance!
Glad Beethoven is doing well!

Hi! I've been thinking about you and Beethoven ever since Jesse had to return from the Falls. I think it was Jesse's and Beethoven's competition that got them both OTJ at about the same time

I totally understand the part in your post about the missing posting everyday, but also so glad not to be posting anymore. When Guinness went back on the juice, I totally dreaded starting this all over again...I work now (I was a stay-at-home mom the first time around) and I wasn't sure that I could emotionally go through what I went through or if I had the time to commit to it. I do have to say that this time around has been easier emotionally. I'm not quite as frantic and not quite as scared. We do have things going on that frustrate the heck out of me, like not knowing exactly why he came back from the falls and the fact that his dose just keeps getting higher and higher with no end in sight. I do have a more realistic outlook this time as well. I'm not sure that I can save him with the food, insulin, etc., but I am doing all I can and it's enough. That all being said, I will be the first to tell you that I have had a few control-freak episodes here trying to understand why I can't get his numbers to respond when I am doing everything I'm suppose to. It's a product of having him go OTJ so quick the first time around. I thought I did that and I can do it again. That may not be the case, and I am not in charge.

I'm so glad that Beethoven is doing so well. The whole time Guinness was OTJ he still acted like a diabetic cat. Constantly trying to steal food, always hungry, meowing. I knew in my heart he would be back someday. It's sounds like Beethoven is different and enjoying the falls more then the carbs. Thanks for the update.
