I was gone over the weekend from Friday afternoon till Monday afternoon so I had my friend testing and shooting Michelangelo. He was a right proper little bastard for her for the first two days to the point where I had her skip his PMS on 5/3 instead of them both stressing out further. On top of that, he had a delayed shot on his 5/4 AMS because my friend couldn't get him to cooperate then, either (he ended up being shot by my brother who ended up not going to Vegas  ). Then, Sunday, he finally realized I wasn't around to "save" him from Stranger!Danger and he turned into an absolute sweetheart and actually cuddled with my friend!  He doesn't even cuddle with me! I also had her skip his 5/6 AMS when he tested at 96 because no one was going to be around to test him till I got home at his +9.

I'm expecting by the end of the week for his numbers to re-stabilize a bit and I'll be able to see how he's doing then.

What a weekend! I hope you had a nice little vacation. It's nice you at least have people willing to try testing and shooting for you, even if it didn't quite go as planned!

I had a fabulous time seeing friends and family I haven't seen in years and I got to meet my cousin's new baby for the first time, so it was quite a lot of fun. Thank you for asking. :-D

I'm very blessed that all of my friends are willing and open to things like this and are interested in it. I do have a few friends that don't necessarily agree with me on the life-value of a cat (some of them grew up on farms so a cat is just another animal like a pig or a chicken and they can't fathom why I would go to this much trouble). Even still, they have a scientific curiosity and morbidity that makes them want to "play vet" anyway. I seem to do a pretty good job of picking my friends. haha_smiley

As for it not going "as planned," my basic plan was "keep Mikey from hypo or DKA while I'm gone" so they succeeded quite well on that. :thumbup And no one ended up in a coma or had a heart attack this time either! :o \M/

Your plan did work. Not perfectly, but on the most important points, no DKA, no hypo, it worked just fine.

Yep. I look at it like this: a majority of feline diabetic owners don't even test their cats at all and their cats might not be thrivin', but they're survivin' (for the most part). Because of my job, I'm not ever going to be gone for more than a couple of weeks at a time, maybe up to a month. At the very least, Michelangelo just needs to be able to "survive" for a bit without me there to help him thrive.

I was just talking with my friend who was taking care of Mikey for me earlier today and she said that basically, the first two days, Mikey was acting like a kid would with a babysitter or a substitute teacher; sort of like, "you're not my mom so I don't have to obey you." ohmygod_smile What am I gonna do with that boy?

It's funny how they react to people that are not "theirs", isn't it? Before the whole diabetes thing, I was out of the country for three weeks so Papaya got to live with my parents. It went fine, they like cats, but it was weird how her personality really changed permanently for the better when they brought her back to my place. It seemed like she was so glad to be home again, or that I had come back after all, that she became a lot more affectionate. So maybe all your "substitute teachers" will just make Mikey appreciate you more! Actually hearing your approach of getting everyone involved makes me think of a few friends that I need to start teaching . . . mwahahaha.

If I have people over, I use "teaching" as an excuse to get out of having to give Mikey his PM test and shot. (I'm really good at figuring out new ways to be lazy. ;-) )

OMG-I've been reading through this condo  --your Michelangelo sure can be such a lovable, cute brat--I just love him! He has a Gobby personality; I bet they could be "partners in crime"
