I've been asked to start a new condo because the other one is getting hard to manage. Again, thank you for letting me post here.

IM vet called. She did the procedure and it went well! She said it was very tough to get into his duodenum but she persisted and got in and got the samples. She didn't say anything about things looking bad in there. She said he's waking up now and they will offer him food at 12. She also said she'll she'll send me home with appetite stimulants just in case - I was concerned about that. In the meantime I'm going to download the webscam software from the net and make an "appoitment" to visit him at about 12:30 and try to coax him into eating.

Regarding Reiki...it's a way to pass energy healing to people and animals. Google it and you'll get a better explanation. There are 3 levels and I am a level 2 reiki practitioner. Level 3 is a master. With level 2 you can do remote healing. I wanted to have this ability so that wherever I am I can always help my pets. It gives you a tool to help them when nothing else is working-it gives me hope and I sense that I can do something. I can feel it and see it working. Last night I had to be persistant because it took him more than a half hour to settle down. I let him come to me. Instead of forcing him to sit down I let him walk around while offering him reiki. He'd come by and sniff my hands and over time he'd sit next to me for a while, then he progressed to my lap. Then he settled in for about 45 minutes of relaxation and like I said last night he gazed up at me lovingly every once in a while as if he was thanking me. It was an incredible bonding experience for us. he stopped trying to bite off his catheter and just chilled out. Reiki One class is all you need to do what I did last night. It's so neat when you feel your hands tingle and warm up. I'm such a sceptic but I swear, it's for real. I feel extra close to Boomer because of our Reiki bonding. PS - it has nothing to do with religion or any religious beliefs. It's open to everyone and can cause no harm.

Traci, good to hear the news about Boomer. Paws crossed for the test results, but things sound like they are going better.

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

Get two prescriptions one for Mirtzapine and one for Cyproheptadine. That way if one doesn't work you can try the other and don't have to go through the hassle of getting a new script.
I can not wait till he can come home.

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

Good news that Boomer came through the procedure well. I hope he'll feel better when he gets home. Still sending healing energies and prayers.

I too am interested in learning Reiki, but I haven't been able to find a teacher in my area. Thanks for explaining it.

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

I'm so glad that the procedure went well. Now Boomer you make sure and eat something so that you can go home with your Mom tonight.

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

so glad to hear things went well, here's to hoping for even more good news.

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

He ate! The nurse told me that she was astounded that he ate right after he woke up! Yay! I tried to connect to him via video but was having issues. I've seince solved them and will try again in a cuple hours. They were really nice and sent me this video of him. He was being bad and trying to chew off his catheter so they had to put the cone on him. He doesn't really look like himslef here - his pupils are dialated and his mouth is kind of open. But atleast he's curious and active, right?

It's amazing how strong these kitties are and Boomer is young and strong like bull! I'm sure he'll amaze us too (even more than he has already). I'm so glad the procedure went well and HE ATE!!!!

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

Wow D-
Good thinking. I didn't realize there was more than one appetite stimulant. The only one I've ever used is periactin and I didn't love it. I also didn't know that if one doesn't work perhaps another wone will. See? I learned something new AGAIN! Thanks!

I'm picking him up in an hour!

That's the first time he's ever worn a cone! They had to put it on him because he was being naughty. I'm picking him up soon and hopefully when I get him home things will go smoothly. I'm a little scared, but no use thinking that way. One hour at a time.

Hi Natasha-

i thought the webscam thing was a great idea too. It's similar to Skype if you've ever heard of or used that. I couldn't get it to work propertly here at work and I couldn't exactly ask for help from my IT department, ya know? it's funny because the nurses there also have to be "tech support" too. THey tried to help me get connected but something was wrong on my end, that's why they sent the video to me. A big hospital can afford to do this stuff. They certainly charge enough and they want ALL the money BEFORE they touch him. They will take any kind of payment except check - don't want to risk not getting all their dough. But on the other hand Dr. Smarty Pants DID do an ultrasound for him for free and didn't charge me for staying overnight and trying the procedure again...so that's good.

Re: 5/7 Boomer's new condo-procedure done!

Hi Ele-

Reiki is a great tool and it's fun to see it work. My BF has a stray cat he's rescued and I do it to her. She won't let people touch her much but she will get on my lap and stay for Reiki. He's amazed by it and it's very satisfying for me. There are probably classes at Adult Ed places. I took Reiki 1 with a master who had her own tiny studio. I just googled Reiki in my area and found a few people. It was a 2-day class and after the class I had to practice on myself and others for 3 weeks while keepng a journal. This is the time Boomer was diagnosed with p-titis. I did Reiki on him every day or 3 months and his pancreatitis has gone away and seems to have healed. I can't prove anything, but I'm just sayin'. Then I took Reiki 2 with a "famous" guy in the Reiki world, John Gray. That was cool. More money that Reiki 1, but it was worth it to have this ability. Once you're atuned you have it for life even if you stop using it for ten years - it never goes away.

YAY! Boomer is coming home! Such a relief for you. I can't see the video either my browser says I don't have the right MIME plug in. I don't need to see it though, it's all there in your "voice" in your posts.

It's great to see Boomer at home!! (I clicked on the link below the video screen and downloaded it to play on WinAmp -- it wouldn't play in the condo for me, either).

Traci -- don't give Mirtz and Cypro on the same day. They counteract each other. I'd have to go look up which cancels the other out but just be aware that they do. Cypro is dosed once every 3 days; mirtz is daily.

(((((Traci and Boomer)))) so happy to hear he did well with the procedure and is up and eating already I have been thinking of you and Boomer :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

Cyproheptadine (Periactin) is an antidote to Mirtazapine. I think the above info is incorrect. As far as I know, Mirtazapine is dosed every 3rd day.

I hope Boomer is happy to be home....know you must be busy....but well, i was just thinking about you guys and feel so happy that he will be home tonight. :YMHUG:

Linda you have it right. Mirt is every three days and according to Noisy's vet you can give cypro without waiting if the mirt doesn't work. Mirt stopped working for Noisy but that was because he was too ill.

I loved mirt -- Meowzi calls it her happy pill. 20 minutes after taking it Noisy would turn into a love and eating machine.

You guys are GEMS, I swear! I just can't believe the love I've gotten during this HELL week! It's been one stressful week.

My BoomBoom is home. The doc gave me mirt - aka remeron, I think, right? Someone called it an anti-depressant in addition to an app stimulant. Is that right? I don't have the other one periactin- just this one. I haven't given him any yet because he seems to be fine - he's eating like a horse which is THRILLING! All 5 P's are in place.

He seems fine - like his old self. The only difference is he is not as vocal. I wonder if he has a sore throat from the scope? He's being very quiet but seems happy-it's a little weird that he's not yelling at me.

My IM vet told me that she will help me figure out what to feed him too. She gave me samples of many kinds of food for cats with food allergies. My head has been spinning this week about food. I've stopped looking at carbs as much. It's SO different. I've had two vets tell me they don't think he'll become diabetic again from higher carb foods. I hope they are right. I'll watch him and test - if he does go up I'll have to take action. The main thing right now is to get him to eat because he's lost weight.

Traci,

I'm so glad Boomer is home and doing so well.

I've tried the Natural Balance Limited Ingredient diets and my cats all seem to like it. The dry especially. It's all something and Green Pea. Salmon, Duck, Chicken and Venison. It's at Petco so you usually don't have to go crazy looking for it. I have no idea what the card levels are, but at least it's only green pea and nothing else.
