man, this really sucks! haha. her am numbers are so high

i started weening her off her prednisolone this morning, so she's now getting 1.25mg of it, so i'll hold that for a few days before lowering it again.

her back legs are getting bad again, she threw up yesterday morning, and this morning but she's been eating fine. She's been drinking more and peeing a bit more. but negative ketones

Hi guys .. sorry to see such a high morning number for annie .. Also sorry to hear about the upset tummy :sad: I think lots of people here use B12 for kitties back legs when they are weak, have you looked into that? Others can correct me if I'm wrong of course! hope you guys have a great day!

Yes she gets b12 injections

Also, she threw up this morning at 9am we fed her at 11 and gave insulin and she just threw up again so I gave her more food.

What do I do?

i think i'd give her a little while to let her stomach settle down, then try just a tiny amount of food. often cats will do a "scarf and barf" if they are too hungry. they eat too much too fast and then vomit. giving a little watered down food, waiting a half hour and repeating can help break that cycle.

if she continues vomiting today probably i'd call the vet. you never heard back about the prednisolone, did you? you probably want to check in on the decision to wean her off anyway.

no, didn't hear back from my vet... i called the office yesterday and he wasn't there... he's back in today so i'm gonna call him.

the person i talked to on the phone couldn't answer me definately, but i asked why she was put on the steroid, and he said not for sure but it's usually prescribed to help the pancreas start to function again and repair itself as well as take down inflammation. and the Clavaseptin she's been on is an antibiotic.

I was just reading a post from the VIN on pancreatitis and it did say that pred was an option in certain casis where the pancreatitis was more than just mild but it went on to say....not in diabetic cats. Many of the cats here have been treated for pancreatitis without steroids. Some vets put them on AB but the post in the VIN also said that pancreatitis is not bacterial and that ABs should not be a routine med to treat it. I think most effective are fluids, pain meds, cerenia if there is vomiting, ondansetron for nausea. I would read the info Julie linked and then talk to my vet again. Some vets are a little behind the times on treating pancreatitis...not saying yours is but some are.

I also agree that if this isn't scarf and barf, she should see the vet sooner rather than later...it could be from the pancreatitis.

i have 4 kids (now young adults) and spent 13 years working with teenagers. it wasn't before, but now patience has become my middle name. repetition is too! ;-) :lol:

Looks like you could be seeing the effects of less steroid in Annie's system with those numbers today.

Did she vomit the prednisolone this a.m.?

Did your vet give you instructions on how to wean off the pred?

Ohhhh good point! She threw up about a half hour after the prednisolone.
That's probably helped her numbers. I'm calling my vet in about an hour. I called but he couldn't take my call.

Annie was having such a good day for numbers, then now not so much. i was really hoping for a yellow preshot
