Morning, I think! I've been up since 3 am and so sleepy. Maggie is doing really good, staying flat since last night. She was hungry, so she just had some Sophisticat sprinkled with a little FortiFlora. She's still on an antibiotic for five more days. Whatever happened yesterday with the hiding, she seems fine today. She hates taking the antibiotic, so maybe I'll try a pill pocket if I have any spare.

Morning Ann,

Glad Maggie is doing well and shes not hiding anymore. If you don't have any pill pockets is there something that you have that you could make your own out of? Somebody mentioned that they put a little water in a soft treat to mold it around the pill. It worked fine.

Have a good day.

Thanks Jan. That's a good idea! I have these soft Whisker Lickins Salmon flavor (was a pre-diabetic treat). She loves them. I think I know what is happening - both with the antibiotic pill and pain med, I need to hold her mouth open just a little, and it must still be sore perhaps! If she fights me giving her the pill, I bet it is more painful. The Vet explained for me to place the liquid pain med on her right side of mouth, as left side is where she had the tooth extraction. I will be glad when she is finished with the antibiotic pill, about 4 more days. Pain med is finished.

Maggie has stayed really flat today, no peaks. I know I need a new vial of Lantus. She seems to be feeling better since the Friday tooth extraction, and no hiding today, just lots of napping and sunbathing.

come on Maggie, let's see some more of that pretty green!
How old is your insulin?

It's the vial, and I've had mixed opinions on how long it lasts. The Pharmacist said one month. My Vet said up to 4 months. Well, it's dated February 6, 2010, so it's almost four months old. I am going to call the Vet's office tomorrow and ask for a refill. I may change pharmacies. The one I'm now using has already made two mistakes. I know most here use the pen, but I like the vial.

hmm, with as well as maggie is doing I wouldn't want to mess with old insulin. Might as well get some new, who knows, she might do even better.

Hi Libby, thanks, I think, too, 4 months may be the shelf life of the vial. We'll see if there's any change with the new vial.
