Last night my husband helped me get an avatar. Unfortunatley it seems to have jinxed Gracie because this morning she has her first red number to match her babushka.

I had thought that maybe the old insulin vial had gotten weak since it was opened over a month ago and in the beginning had been kept on the refrigerator door (before I learned that was a bad place for it) . Her hot pink numbers started going down when we started using the new pen but now with a 402 this morning I'm discouraged.

This could be a bounce. Unfortunately, unless you start getting at least one test during the PM cycle you will never know. At this point, you're missing half of your data. Many cats experience lower BG numbers at night. You could be missing dose reductions or other information that would influence your dosing decisions.

Frankly, I think Gracie may need a higher dose but without PM tests and more data, I am very reticent to suggest your changing the dose.

Love her avatar...she's very cute!!!

I think Sienne has given you some great thoughts to consider. Good luck!

aw, gracie does look like a little Babushka! what a sweetie!

maybe you can get a "just before you go to bed" test in to give some more data. You've done a great job starting out! It's a lot to do, isn't it?!

how's gracie's behavior been? does she still act sick, drink a lot, etc, or more back to normal?

Thank you. I've been feeding all the cats a small snack around 11pm so Gracie won't have to go so long between meals, but I'll start doing some testing at night.

Thanks! And you're right, there has been so much to learn and there's much more to come.
Gracie isn't acting sick at all. She's eating well and is playful again. Since she was sick and in the hospital being treated for ketoacidosis at the time of her diagnosis I did buy some test sticks to use at home...thankfully negative so far. All 3 cats are eating all canned food now. They all love Fancy Feast and Friskies...my non-diabetic orange guy is especially thrilled to be off the "premium" canned foods and hasn't gone on a hunger strike to protest the absence of his daily portion of dry crunchies. I wish I had known this a long time ago; maybe Gracie wouldn't have become diabetic.

I think most of us wish we'd known more about feline nutrition before our cats became diabetic. The good news is we all probably now know more than our vets when it comes to what food is good for a cat.
