I’ve just started testing glucose this week and have very limited data (also still nervous about the tests and haven’t started a spreadsheet yet on this board), but am concerned about numbers today and wanted advice.
First I'll say they fed K/D to Mr. Big Eyes for two days while he was at the vet clinic and told me to give ½ can twice a day with 2 units of insulin at each feeding. That went fine for about 5 days until he didn’t want to eat that much. I’ve given him a little under 2 units since then for almost a week, but am concerned I should have given him less since he’s only been eating about 1/3 can instead of ½ can each feeding.
Now for the numbers: April 30 PM PS 212. May 1 PM PS 217. May 2 PM PS 211. And today when I was home sick and took more tests: +6 284, +8 253, PM PS 265. A big difference tonight from the previous 3 nights. Wondering if this is what is called bouncing or if there is something else I don’t know about. I only gave him one unit tonight because I thought that was safer since I don’t understand.
Another thing I’m thinking about. I do want to get him on low carb food. (He actually was on some for about a week before the diagnosis, but I got scared that I needed to take him to the vet to get on insulin while he still had some life left, so I went along with them feeding him K/D and adjusting the insulin dosage to that high carb food.) Would it make any sense to put him on the low carb food without any insulin at all and just monitor his glucose before feeding in the morning and evening for a few days to get a pattern, then go back to insulin at 1 unit twice a day for a few days? I’m pretty scared now and want to do whatever is safest.
Thanks!
