Busy, busy, busy weekend.

Pumbaa is now on his 8th cycle at 2.0U. He stayed in the yellow most of the day yesterday, and had a nice blue the night before, but nothing overly exciting to report yet.

I did notice that, the last couple of days, he's not hoovering up his AM and PM meals like he used to, and is grazing more evenly now. I hope that is a sign that we're getting closer to his ideal dose.

New supplies (250 test strips and 200 lancets) are due to arrive from American Diabetes Wholesale today, so I will be able to test more often again without worrying about running out of strips in the meantime.

Re: 5/29 Pumbaa AMPS/378

Life is always better when you dont have to stress about going short on supplies....of course once I bought 700 strips, Kit decided he was gonna go OTJ 2 weeks later :) funny how life is eh?

Hope these numbers begin to go down soon...it'd be lovely to see Pumbaa in some blues and greens!

Sorry I haven't been present in the last little while. I got rear-ended by a student at my school last week (my brand new car!! :( :( ) and my back's been hurting quite a bit since...so gave me a good excuse to plop myself on the couch and not move - but I've been keeping myself updated on my phone! So tell Pumbaa that i'm still keeping an eye on him and he better get those numbers down!! Now it's time to limp myself away to celebrating my birthday - turning a new decade today ahhh! :) Oh its been an interesting week!

Hope everything is going well and you're adjusting to being awake in daytime hours again....I've come to the conclusion that whatever you decide to do b/c you "think" cats behave in a predictable way won't work b/c they'll just change it up!

It's sounding like Pumbaa is settling in nicely, with decent numbers and also his appetite leveling off. So often, in the beginning, you see lots of cats eating more and seeming very hungry in the initial phase after you start the insulin and the body gets used to having help and then being able to use the food well.

If he's nice and smooth on this dose, maybe you can adjust the dose slightly by .25u and see if he can get a few more of those 100s on his ss.

I always wanted to keep more than enough test strips on hand as I got pretty short long ago and did not like to have to ration out my strips. It's so reassuring to know that whatever happens, you will be able to test.

Re: 5/29 Pumbaa AMPS/378

Lil, I am SO sorry to hear about your accident and back problems! And in a brand new car, no less. :( But...hope you are having a very happy birthday today!!!!

That is so true about cats not being predictable! I swear Pumbaa reads my posts and notes in the SS and then does the opposite of anything I predict after looking at past data! I see SSs where the cats are predictable, and want to copy that data to Pumbaa's SS and alter the future. *LOL*

Maybe that's the trick...if I order 700 test strips and lancets, Pumbaa will decide to go green, permanently! It makes my brain hurt to try and outsmart a cat!

I'm thinking about upping Pumbaa to 2.25U tomorrow morning, because it looks like he has settled into the 200's now for his flat area. I'd love to see him settle into blue for his flat area, with occasional greens and NO MORE blacks or reds!

Hope your back is all better soon, and, again, a major happy birthday to you, Lil!

Gayle:

I'm pleased that Pumbaa has put on weight, but it's not carb-caused fat, and his belly isn't hanging on the ground. He's more sleek and muscular, and looks tremendous! I'm so glad to hear confirmation that his eating less is a result of being able to use the fuel better! Like I said, I'm praying that that means we are getting closer to his ideal dose!

He is looking pretty smooth now on the 2.00U dose, settling into flat yellows, which is so much better than settling into flat pinks. And his bounces appear to be less severe. And yes, I am thinking of upping his dose to 2.25U in the morning. I just wanted to make sure I had enough test strips on hand to do this. Unfortunately, I had to wait for client checks to come in before I could order from American Diabetes Wholesale, but I got my order today and am very happy with their service, as well as with the $0.12-per-strip savings. When you test 8 or more times per day, that is a significant savings in a month! I agree...I didn't like rationing my test strips these last couple of days, and making sure I had enough in case he went hypo. It didn't hit me until last week just how many test strips I go through in a single week.

Thank you for your reassurance and positive thoughts!

Hi Suze! Popping in to say hello to you & Pumbba. Glad to see him more flat on the yellow instead of bouncing everywhere. Good luck with new dose, hope to see him more in the lue & green./ helen
