All is fairly well in CurryLand. Her appetite seems a little off...not much....might be happening since her numbers are beginning to flatten out.

Feline Peace Accords: Had the girls together in the same room pretty much all day w/o crating Curry. First time for that. :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT A wee bit of hissing from both. Even felt comfortable leaving them together for a couple of hours while I ran some errands. By the evening they were tiring of one another. But no aggressive behavior from either all day. I do put Curry in her room over night for now. Took off her harness yesterday as well. Will do the same thing today and see what happens. So it looks like they are in the last phase of this reintroduction process. Thank goodness.

Beautiful numbers. Flaaaaaaat Cat!
I hope the kitties will continue to improve their relationship together. Mainly for YOUR sake, hahaha!

Morning Tena and what a great cycle for Curry. That is great that the girls are together with no harness and no aggressive behavior, just a little hissing. Have a nice weekend. It's raining here until the afternoon, which I don't mind as I love the rain, but itnmay have spoiled others plans.

AMEN on that thought. It has been a quite a ride managing Curry w/her diabetes/asthma and then the added fun of feline aggression. It was 4 months ago on the 27th that all the arguing began. The Vet Behaviorist said it could take from 3-6 months for the issue to resolve as long as I was patient with the process. CAN I TAKE MY PATIENCE PANTS OFF NOW?

Its been interesting to watch the two of them negotiate their territory. Sid for the first time last night and second time this morning actually growled at Curry as if to say, "get outta my space". They both like hanging out in the same area of the room. Curry is on the couch where Sid would like to sit. Curry didn't respond to Sid's hiss or growl.

Sid was initially the Alpha kitty but over time Curry has gained that title. Wish it was still Sid....Curry doesn't handle "power" very well.

Wow, more beautiful numbers this morning for Curry.. I'm glad to hear the everyone is getting along much better now. I didn't know it was a reintroduction phase. Do you know what started the aggression. I would be interested to hear why.
I hope that your weekend is going well :-D

The kitties had been together w/o any major incident for 9 years until Jan 27th. They both saw a tux kitty that lurks in the bushes at night through the window. Both got scared. Sometimes when a kitty sees another "foreign" kitty and can't get to it to attack, it then turns on the owner or a another kitty in the home. Sid was right there and Curry went crazy. It was also when lantus kicks in and her numbers dropped when she chased Sid and tried to attack her. It was awful. I isolated them for a period of time that night and tried to reintroduce. Curry went nuts again. I think the experience was imprinted and we had to over time change her behavior as well as Sid's who was fearful now. Hired a Vet Behaviorist to come into my home, to do an assessment of the kitties as well as myself, and received specific guidelines for reintroduction. It worked. The longest phase was allowing the kitties to "see" one another just during feedings. They started about 21 feet apart. That phase seemed to take about 3 months as I gradually moved Sid's food dish closer. Also gave Sid some Anxitane S to help her to relax a bit. The Vet would have probably put Curry on an antidepressant for the aggression but she decided against it due to her diabetes. Its been a long haul. We still have some work to do, but the majority of the work is complete. What really helped was that I got the Vet Behaviorist involved early in the process so that I was providing the right interventions and before the "incorrect" behaviors solidified. I've also blocked off the lower part of the window...just in case the neighbor's cat decides to hide in the bushes again.

Here's the info on the Anxitane. The Vet recommended it for Sid and it doesn't sedate her. I crush it up in low sodium tuna juice w/water to reduce the sodium even further.
Chewable Tablets for dogs and cats promote relaxation in pets exhibiting nervousness, anxiety or responding to environmentally-induced stress. I've never heard of this happening before and it really made me sad to read about it with your two kitties. They were friends for nine years and then, all of a sudden. Poor Sid!!! Lost a friend AND had to worry about being attacked. I'm glad things are on the mend for them. It must have been so hard for you to deal with. Good luck.

Have a great Sunday!! :-D

It was definitely difficult.

Sid is really very, very sweet. Today when I gave both some tuna, Curry had her head down eating....Sid reached out to groom Curry's head....OH NO SID....Hissssssssssssssssssssss......from Curry. Sid is so patient w/Curry and is just so loving. Curry doesn't really like alot of contact and will growl. Pick her up....growl...Put her down....growl.....I think dealing w/all the pokes and such has taken its toll on Curry.

Re: 5/29 Curry AMPS~85 PMPS~98

Oh wow, i never knew the background story between Curry and Sid. Amazing that it all started from them seeing another cat.....who knew? I just thought that Sid was a new cat that you had just gotten and you were trying to introduce Sid to Curry, but they were BFF's for 9 years. I guess every once in awhile i fight with my BFF too......if that makes it any better  Sounds like the girls were fighting over a boy :o Hopefully the girls get back to where they once were, friends.

My parents keep Leo's brother Toban and since Leo's been sick i have definitely noticed a different vibe between the 2 of them. Toban won't interact with Leo as much as he used to. They used to play and fight and always slept together, now no playing, no fighting but they do tolerate each other. I know its due to Leo being sick.

Great numbers for Curry btw, have a great night Tena!

I'm so glad to see such lovely numbers for Curry and that you have made such incredible progress. I remember when the incident happened.....so sad considering they have been together for so long. We used to have a cat who had displacement behaviors. You were so smart to bring in the behaviorist when you did. It's really paying off!!

Have a great Memorial Day with your beautiful girls.

Re: 5/29 Curry PMPS~98 +3-49

So we've almost completed day 2 of the final phase. I did put Curry in time-out after she got a little too high on her horse w/Sid this afternoon. Overall, this phase is going well. No attacks.

On a side note, I was trying to rescue a kitten that is under a car hood. Evidently the poor thing has been there all day. The car is locked tight and I can't even fit under the car to see where the kitten entered. Had to leave a note on the owner's car asking them to PLEASE not start the car until they've checked under the hood.

Hi Tena - what a great day! The final phase - I am very happy to read that. I too remember when it all happened way back. I had hoped that they would be able to get along again.. I know what a long haul it has been for you.

oh wow on the kitten under the car hood. omg. I hope that he will be OK.

And very nice numbers for Curry today. :-D
