last night:
215 pmps
186 +1
117 +3
122 +4

267 +11.....ate
297 amps.......One drop insulin
189 +1
141 +2.....1/2 teas lc with 1/2 teas gravy, to try and offset the drop at +3

Good Morning LL'ers
I'm not much liking this new habit. I wake an hour earlier than shot time. The instant I stir, I have 3 furballs looking for breffis. This new routine is temporary, so don't want to change his shot time right now.
Of course, I end up with food spike at his test/shot time.
I believe he would have yellow at amps anyway. He always does.

I'm thinking I should increase a tiny bit, and carb the +1 and +2, to control the +3 nadir? To bring down the whole curve, I mean.
Any thoughts, please?

I'm starting to feel like a scientist here, with the mixing and matching.

That's a big drop for the +2. Tess used to nadir at +3 too, that's why we switched to Levemir, later nadir so a slower drop. Good for Tess, bad for the beans, we have to stay up a lot later.

Hi Barb, just wanted to say hello. I had to read that more than once, but I see what you're doing now. If you didn't carb the +2, you would get another big drop, right? I hope you get some other thoughts/opinions. I think you're doing good experimenting. I hope Checkers isn't reading your condo and then does something totally different than xspected.

Any suggestions on avoiding a bounce for tomorrow's amps?

Re: 5/29 Checkers pmps 230

Hi barb - I wish I knew the answer to than one... on the avoiding the bounce. I know some people you have kitties that are close to being off the juice will give a snack at +8, or +9. i dunno.... an advisor I am not. I like the experimenting though. I usually feed Mannie's +2, just to control his drops too. Is that what you were asking this morning?

:-D :-D I can see them all lined up waiting for you to feed breffis, even if it was an hour early... cats!

Re: 5/29 Checkers pmps 230 +2/111

Yes Michelle and Ann.
I thought if I fed a little more carb at +2, it might avoid the big drop to +3. I can't figure out how to bring the whole curve down. He is always yellow at amps, drops to green, then goes right back up.
One drop unsulin keeps him blue, two drops, and he dives.
The way I see it, is to give the 2 drops, and control the drops with food.
I don't know if that will help. I'm trying. *sigh*

Re: 5/29 Checkers pmps 230 +2/111

Barb -

In response to your question, I tested at PM +0.5 because of the drop from the AM +9 to PMPS. For a 100 point drop at the end of the cycle, I was assuming there was some pretty good momentum behind the drop. In addition, I was getting a very evil stare from Gabby which, from experience, tells me she's still hungry and her numbers are dropping. I've also been adding Karo to her food from the +0.5 test.

In case you didn't see Bev's reply, "R" refers to either Humulin or Novolin R -- also sometimes called "Regular" insulin. While most other forms of insulin are considered basal insulin (i.e. it's the base), R is a "bolus" insulin -- it can be given in addition to your basal insulin. R is short-acting and quite potent. It is most frequently used with cats who are being monitored closely in hospital/ER situations where BG numbers need to be brought down quickly in a controlled environment. It can obviously be used with cats whose numbers are high and who's beans can monitor carefully.

Holy Cow, we just had a half hour of wild thunder and lightning! It actually made Checkers nervous.
He was pacing and seemed to not know where to go. He even likes sitting out on the screenporch, during a thunderstorm, but this was crazy wild.
Poor little Clancy wouldn't let me out of his sight.
I pulled the plug on the computer, the lightning was so bad, and fast coming....and too close for comfort.
I never finished what I was saying to Sienne.

It's just rumbling now. I love a summer storm but not thunder that shakes the house.

I gave him 2 drops tonight, instead of the usual 1 drop, expecting a big drop, and of course, he did it his way.
One nice green number, then right back up again. I did not feed the +3.
He's eating lc right now, at +4.
Off to bed for me.

Sienne, thank you for the explanations of the insulin, and Gabby's numbers.
