Marshmellow her usual rambunctious self today. I am a little worried, Marshmellow ha lost approximately 2 pounds in just under a month. Will try to check for keytones and sugar today. I am thinking it may be that her civy is starting to eat more and more wet food, So Marshmellow may not be eating as much as she had previously. Lizzy is a grazer who is addicted to dry food, we have to put her in a separate room multiple times daily so she can eat, but lately she is eating more wet (Marshmellow always finishes Lizzy's when she's done), and I think I need to increase the amount Marshmellow has been getting. Will monitor more closely over the next few days.

I hope everyone has a nice day and safe surfing to all the kitties!

That amount of weight loss is alarming. Are you weighing on a baby scale or human? The bab scales are much more accurate. When Tiffany got sick I bought a Saltar 914 baby scale and am so glad that I have it. At first it was because she needed to lose and it took a year for her to lose a pound. My vet was hoping it would happen in a year. Was Marshmellow eating dry food before diagnosis? The switch to canned is less calories but I switched Max to canned and he hasn't lost but a few ounces. Yes I have a porker.

The switch from dry to wet is a lot less calories and she is active which my guy isn't. The hard part for me with the weighing is if they use the box for everything before you weigh one day and not the next it can obviously make a difference. Your post reminded me to weigh at least a couple times a week. Sounds like she is feeling good and maybe she just isn't eating enough. Good catch and something to watch but definitely not panic over. Was her T4 normal?

I believe it was, but at the time I didn't keep a copy. The vet wants us to bring her in shortly for labs, as she was in DKA at the time, so that wasn't a top priority.

Some weight loss with a switch to canned food isn't out of the ordinary -- it's a higher protein diet. (Think of it as the kitty equivalent to the Atkins Diet.) Elise has made some good points. Once you have some of the variables that could effect weighing taken into consideration, keep an eye on Marshmallow's weight and discuss with the vet when you go in next.

I'd mention it to the vet the next time you take her in just to be on the safe side. With Marshmellow being so active, that could be a big part of it. It's great she's feeling so good.
