Hi everyone. Frank's having a nice day...bright eyes, interested...and cute. And just look at that +5!! :-D

However, he will not be too happy in about 3 hrs.....he has a vet appt. I am not looking forward to it since he freaks out needing a muzzle, etc. My daughter is going along for moral support. I am anxious though to see results of blood tests. I'll update when I can.

Wish me luck!

There is a new kind of muzzle that lets the kitty still see out the front, I hope that have something like that for your boy. It seems like it would be less stressful.

I think it was canvas material. I also think he can see.Hmmmm....just not certain though. I feel so sad to see him go through this.

Poor Cali...hope she smiles for you soon.

I also have a civvie named cally (spelled diff though  )When hearing my putty's name is cally, most people ask if she is a calico....but no, just like the name. Is yours?

Re: 5/28 Frank AMPS 248, +5 75 Vet Appt today

Yes, mine is a calico :) She's our little wildling; we trapped her when she was just a baby with blue eyes, and we've belonged to her since. She's also a scaredy cat, and was terrified but very very good at Wednesday's vet appt.

I hope Frank has an easy time at the vet's. Have you considered giving him some Rescue Remedy or using Feliway spray to try to calm him down?

No..I never thought of it. My mom uses Rescue Remedy if she can't sleep. Have to look into these.

Thankfully that is over! The vet was able to lift his lips to look at teeth. I was in shock :o that Frank allowed this. However soon enough Frank morphed into a crazy cat. It's a shame for him..and upsets me. The vet took him out of the exam room to get blood. He got very upset when they tried to get blood from his neck the vet said and they had to stop to be careful of his breathing. Next try..., successfully they got blood from his leg..not sure why they didn't try here first.(seems easier...?) After getting blood she brought him back into the exam room in his carrier. Said she thought he was too upset to be examined and didn't want anyone to get hurt. I urged her to examine him, I sure don't want to bring him back to go through all this again in the near future. She agreed and we took off the carrier's top and she examined him in there. Of course, the muzzle went on, he hissed and growled (he sounds like a dog growling..scary)but she was able to examine. Whew!!

Well, this is the report. Frank has a slight heart murmur. Belly feels fine, too. Teeth do look like they would need a cleaning. She is sending blood out to the lab. Of course, the murmur can be trouble with anesthesia. I may have to take Frank to cardiologist for ultrasound to see how bad the heart is. But since he flips out, will they be able to do ultrasound with out anesthesia? What to do....sigh.
Well, Tuesday I'll find out results of blood and we'll take it from there. Meanwhile she wants me to give him antibiotics for possible teeth infection ....Clindamycin Hydrochloride.
I am soooo glad this visit is over.

It's actually much quicker to get the blood from the neck, that's probably why they tried it.

He may require sedation but they will not anesthetize him. So he'd get something like valium and a mild pain killer (for its sedative effects). Can you go to a board-certified cardiologist? I ask because some vets offer a travelling ultrasonographer who is usually an internist.

Oooh where in PA are you? If you're in the Philly area, I know a good board-certified cardiologist that Jess will approve of ;-) Cali's going in to see him next month, on the 18th.

Hello Delma,

Well, the vet visit is done and those things are always good when they are done!

You had a question re: my food suggestion last time. Here's what I was thinking and why.
Frank appears to drop like a rock after onset - not always but look at May 14 for example... 150 points in 3 hours! I'm thinking that it would be helpful to try to attenuate the drop by feeding Frank a little less at shot time and giving him a snack - perhaps bigger than his PS meal at +1.5 or +2. You could experiment only with regular LC to see if it softens up the curve a little. Buzz and Putty are also on similar experiments.

Another alternative is mini meals and Ronnie/Luna was a queen/king of mini meals... you might want to look at that SS.

Does that help at all?

ps - could you try to link your last condo into the new one, it makes it easier to go back without having to sift thru everyone.

ETA - had to reverse the royalty!

Hi Delma

poor Frank! Thats gotta be scary hearing him all mad, gee wiz, if only he knew it was for his own good!

Just wanted to add to what Helene suggested (and a view to our spreadsheet in my signature)
Mini meals really helped with Luna, I still do them to this day, breakfast, and little snacks thru the day thru til my bedtime.
We got that suggestion from Jill/Alex - so you can check her spreadsheet too.

Hope Frank settles back in at home nicely after his adventures today!
Have a good long weekend!

I wonder if Valium would calm him down? I had it once before an operation that I was very nervous about. I didn't have a care in the world....
I'm glad to know that he can get an ultrasound with just some sedatives. I would prefer a true cardiologist, didn't know about the travelling ultrasonographer ...thanks for the tip!
