Morning, all.

Esse WCR: She is currently stuffed into a basket which is about 2 sizes too small (how do you measure cats for baskets, anyway?), happy and content. She just bathed herself, and then Malachi presented himself for his grooming. Then he popped her, so she belted him, and now he's running around playing and Esse is settled in and getting ready to take her morning nap.

Eeyore WCR: He stared me awake this morning - apparently concerned that I'd forget to feed everyone. LOL. He has gotten so much better about testing and shooting, and will "present" himself for the tests without me asking if it's near mealtimes. He still squirms a bit if I am taking too long (or his ear is taking too long to bleed, but he won't accept the responsibility for that...), but he's actually soooooooooo much better. He is still hitting reds, but it's all right; we're working on it.

Hope everyone has a great Furday! I'm riding, and then taking Tango swimming in the local pond for the first time. It might get pretty interesting. LOL.

Nice numbers for Esse - 36 or so hours in blue. I'm likin' that a lot.

Eeyore has come from 430 to 263 in a nice, level manner. I'm hoping he doesn't plummet tonight; that sets up his red bouncing...and he just cleared one. Depending on what his numbers are, food will be out overnight as appropriate.

The only other thing I did differently is that I gave them a full lunch instead of at +4 and +8...that didn't apparently affect Esse at all, but may be helping Eeyore clear.

(And if no one is interested, that's fine too...)

Hi Michelle!
Its really good to see you post.
I just wanted you to know...your absence has been missed, as well as eeyore and essie!

ETA..Did I word that right? I mean you have been missed in your absence? LOL Seriously, you know what I mean, right?!?!?! ;-)

Ooh nice blues for Esse! And come on Eeyore I'd like to see some blues for you too (no diving though.) Interesting about the meal time difference. I guess the only way to find out if it did influence how Eeyore cleared his bounce, is to do it again and see what happens..??

Hope you had fun in the pond today and checked your pockets for frogs when you got home.

Carolynne, I know what you meant, and I appreciate the thought *a lot.* At the moment, I am ever so overly sensitive to things, you know?

I'd like to see some blues for the boy, too...and not passing through down to a low or back up on the way to reds. LOL. I don't know if it helped the issue, the food thing, but we'll see if/when he goes through this again (and I'll bet he will. Maybe even tomorrow...). I hope it did, because that would give me some idea on how to help this guy better.

As for the pond, we didn't go...it was waaaaaaaaay too cold to go swimming in pond water; it only made it to 70*. Not something we want to swim in, and not something we'd want to expose the horses to (I won't even shower Tango unless we're in the sun and it's over 75*...shivering horse is no fun). So no swimming today; although, the rumor is that we will swim this weekend or next week when the weather hits 85 or so.

And since we don't live in Greece, I'm not too worried about frogs in my pocket. I'm far more worried about frogs spooking the Big Handsome, like a crawdad did once...that was a wild ride.

Also, I was asked to volunteer with a horse vaulting place - seems they know of me and my endeavors, and think that a nurse (even if in training) who rides and loves kids and animals will make a good addition to their group. (Apparently, the kitten at the show and the kids and the teaching was noticed...). So I'll go visit them over the weekend, and see what I think. I don't think I can travel with them (they compete all over the West Coast), but they do work with handicapped and disabled people, and have had some outstanding success in rehabbing them, so it will be really interesting to interact with them and work with them. And it's nice to be asked. And, since I've got a summer vacation, I can do some work with them over the next few months and see what I can do for them.

That is a lovely honor that the Horse vaulting group wants you to join them! It sounds like a cool opportunity for you. I've heard a little about the 'healing' power of horses for the disabled or handicapped and it is fascinating. Something about the connection between the horse and human is almost beyond explanation.

I hope it warms up for you so you and Tango can jump in the pond real soon and hope you guys scare the frogs and crayfish instead of the other way around!

I talked to the head coach/owner, and it really is both an exceptional honor and opportunity. I'm NOT going to vault...LOL...flinging my fat behind over fences with Tango is hard enough...but if I can help them somehow, then you know what? I will.

There is an amazing healing energy that horses have. Dunno what it is, or how to qualify/quantify it, but equine rehab therapy is definitely something to consider. There is one little boy at the vaulters now whose parents were told he was not going to walk; he is now walking, and performing, with the group. Another woman who has CP has been vaulting for some 15 years, and has finished school and was able to graduate - walking (with crutches, but still) across the stage to get her diploma. Another guy had been in a coma and was rehabbed with horses, and now he teaches equine therapy.

It is an amazing thing to watch; I've been aware of this group for years, and to be able to work with them, especially offering something more than just horse wrangling, is incredible. I'm just excited. And Tango is happy, too...this means I won't be riding him 5 hours a day the entire summer.

We will go swimming soon...and I suspect if I squash a frog or two, Tango will come to realize that they're harmless. He did kill a snake once - found it in pieces in his stall - so not everything scares him. But most things do. I did have to get him desensitized to cotton-tail bunnies...he swears they are out to kill him. He dumped me once because he lost his mind over a bitty bunny. So I hung stuffed rabbits around his stall, and he eventually got over it. Still doesn't like them, but he deals. LOL.

A big ol' horse afraid of bunnies!! That's pretty funny -- not if you were riding him at the time but the concept!

The equine rehab sounds exciting.

Sienne, it was not funny at the time, but it's hysterical now. Scared the instructor I was riding with, too. There we were, working on our trot, at dusk, and I saw out of the corner of my eye a bunny at the fence line. Tango didn't spot it until it came into the arena, about 20 feet away...hop, hop, hop. The white tail was pretty bright, and bouncy...so Tango reared, squealed, came down, ducked, and darted sideways; I remember thinking "hey, where'd my horse go?" and then I was on the ground. He literally came out from under me, and I hit in a sitting position. When I finally caught up to Tango, he was shaking. I got back on, finished the lesson, and my poor instructor said he had no idea what was happening - just that Tango was up, and then he was running and I was on the ground. So I went to the thrift shop, got a bunch of old stuffed bunnies, tied them all over Tango's stall and also on his food bin, and he learned to deal with them. LOL. Tango has explained that fall to me as "well, you were too slow to hang on. I was trying to save us from the killer huge bunny with blood dripping off his fangs." I told him no more movies with James Stewart.

He has seen them since, and while he tenses and may throw a jig or two, he no longer tries to save us from the vampire bunnies. LOL.

And yes, I'm excited about the volunteer stuff.

As for the kitties, Eeyore is nice and blue, and not plummeting too badly tonight - went down about 100 points in 3 hours (not a huge, scary, fast drop), so I'm hoping he'll stay in this range for a few more hours, and then gradually come back up. Eeyore nadirs earlier than Esse, at about 4-5 or so. If he's red again in the morning, I'm going to bet he managed to get low, and didn't hold steady here. I'm hoping he holds steady...

Esse, OTOH, is trying for a decrease. She's in the 70s, has been for the last hour; she does not nadir until 6-8 hours, so we shall see. I won't be awake for it, but I'll bet a nickel that if I get up in the AM and she's in the 200s or more, she went low.
