5/28 Astrophe AM PS 155/ PM PS 200 Dose increase?

Good morning, and TGIF!!

Astrophe was 8.6/155 this morning. Got her brekkies and a fat 0.25u She was at 148 yesterday- AM and PM PS.

Her BGs aren't bad, and they sure seem to be flat and stable, but I'd like them to be a bit lower. (Once upon a Rambo and Conan time, those would not even be shootable numbers -back when I used Humulin U).

So I'll do some mini curve/spot check tests tomorrow, and may bump her up to a 0.50u to see if I can bring those numbers down just a touch more. Any yay or nays?

Her fur is great, her weight is back on, her appetite (thanks to the Pred!) is ferocious, and she seems fine. But she is not playing ... and she is only 2yrs old, so I want to see her play....

Another blood check for her anaemia tonight. I think I'll give her a treat and leave her home and just take her blood in. (I can take it from her ear, like we do for BG checks - it just needs to be enough to fill a micro-HCT tube. We do that a lot, to save her the stress of the vet visit, except when she is actively sick and needs to be examined. But the crisis is past- again- so we can go back to doing that.)

I don't think I would raise the dose just yet until you have more mid-cycle numbers. You really only have ps numbers so there is no way of knowing how low Astrophe is going in between.

I hope the blood check is good. I would want to see her play also. cat_pet_icon

I agree with Miriam. I think waiting until you have a chance to complete a curve and have more data from the early and mid-cycle will better inform a decision to raise a dose. Given that the data you have is toward the end of the cycle, it's possible Astrophe is in the greens earlier in the day.

Oh gosh- no worries! I would never raise the dose without doing a curve. I'm just going by the spot checks I have done, and the "gut feeling" ... and am hoping to be VERY pleasantly surprised by lots of greens when I check her tomorrow! :smile:

Sorry Karen! I don't know you all that well (and there are newbies and lurkers) so we probably over explain. I'm certainly hoping your gut is right on target!

Oh no - don't worry! I may be an oldtimer on FDMB, and an old hand to the sugar dance (Rambo (GA) was Dx'd back in 2003) but I am a newbie to Lantus, so all explanations and comments are welcome!!
 
Well, so much for talking about staying in the blues... she crept across into low yellows this afternoon. Sigh.

PCV also down a bit to 34%, so no Pred decrease. Booooooooo! And the blood was highly lipemic again (was starting to look better on Tuesday) so now I will be watching her for a recurrence of the pancreatitis...

Grrrrrrrrrr.... never, ever get complacent with a cat!
