that sounds awesome! we need something to do for the weekend - somehow we have no plans. a party sounds great.

karrie, you just dust the diatomaceous earth lightly and when they walk through it, it cuts the waxy coating on them and they dehydrate. just sift it through a strainer, you don't have to make a line - just sift it over them. call a garden store to find the cheapest.

it's supposed to rain here all weekend but for the moment it's perfect! sunny, blue sky, everything is wet from overnight so it's all very beautiful.

Hi everyone ..

Checked out that link, that looks like an interesting place to visit!

This weekend I won't be around much, tonight is dinner out with a friend for her birthday and tomorrow is planned for yardwork (much needed)

Sunday we are headed to our nearby Veterans cemetery where there is an hour long service with a fly over and canon/rifle salute. My uncle was recently buried there. http://www.twitvid.com/RQYYM That's a quick video of their headstones, so perfectly aligned.

Monday will be a a cookout and hanging with family/friends.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and know I'm thinking of you all and your kitties!

I do GeoCaching when I have time. One day we decided to do a cache call City of Angels. The cache creator took us on a tour of all the fabulous angel statues in Lake View Cemetery. We, of course, made quite a few stops along our way during the cache adventure. The cemetery is huge and very, very old. Burials do still take place and they actually provide guided tours beyond just President Garfield's tomb.

We all left a few dimes on Rockefeller's headstone and saw simply stunning angel statuary. We visited the memorial to Elliot Ness (yes, Ness was from Cleveland), and discovered folks we never knew were Clevelanders.

You can actually find people picnic on the grounds and on the lower level near Lake Erie, we spotted people sunbathing...in the cemetery! ohmygod_smile Oh...and I nearly forgot...you can have your wedding there too!

If you want to learn the history of Cleveland (who would ever want to do that) back when Cleveland was a great city...Lake View Cemetery on a summer day is the place to do it.

I am looking forward to visiting again on Monday.

Very interesting stuff .. have you ever done the tour beyond Garfields tomb?

We did the GeoCache of City of Angels. The cache design took us to the 13 most famous Angel sculptures...although there was so much beauty, history, etc. as we walked through using our GPS and cache clues it was too much to take in, in one day.

I've been meaning to go back and I am hoping to do so on Monday. There are historical detail markers all over about this person or that person or this inventor or actor or actress...it is a worthwhile destination.

And the whole place is breathtaking beautiful.

really, a wedding in a cemetery? i think cemeteries are awesome places and don't mind going at all, but sunbathing and a wedding? not so sure that's respectful of the people there, but maybe they don't mind. ;-)

how's mocha been doing?

thanks for the holiday wishes, claudia!

That's a pretty awesome place .. so sad about the young children in the school fire .. If I lived closer I would take a look myself!

Julie, thanks for asking, mocha is doing ok .. she has a sore on her chin we are waiting to see if it clears up before making a vet appt .. I'm going to be checking her numbers this afternoon to make sure she is still smooth sailing!

Yes, a wedding at the cemetery!

Wade Chapel at Lake View is simply that beautiful for an intimate gathering of guests. It's paintings on the walls to the stained glass windows and marble steps....

Ah...here you go:

The Jeptha H. Wade Memorial Chapel is the greatest architectural treasure at Lake View. The spartan elegance of the facade belies the glittering grandeur of the interior, designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and dedicated in 1901. Behind the four-ton bronze doors is a spectacular stained glass window depicting the Resurrection, flanked by scenes from the Old and New Testaments, which were created in shimmering gold and glass mosaics. It is one of the few interiors left in the world designed entirely by Tiffany.

Sunbathing and weddings? That's really surprising. Then again, I think cemeteries should be happy places, just like funerals should be happy moments. They are all about remembering great people that were part of our lives, right? Of course grieves are nowhere near easy, so remembering feels bittersweet. As long as no one is being disrespectful, I'm okay with it, I guess.

This week-end is just another week-end for us in Quebec, but I'll be pretty busy. Saturday evening/night I am going to be the photographer for an event to raise funds against cancer. The weather isn't looking so good, but I am hoping for clear skies tomorrow night. People will be walking all night long, it'd be a shame to have them walking under the rain. Not to mention that the pictures wouldn't be as good.

Bella is purring on my lap as I am writing this. I love when our little Siamese monster takes a break. Today is a happy day. Bebe spent some time cuddling with me while I was working on the computer. He really isn't the cuddling-type; if anything, he comes across as a grumpy kid. Having him jumping on my lap to get hugs without needing to ask him to was a treat. He was so happy he drooled on my keyboard while purring. I can't complain, right? I'm sharing a picture of him with you guys today :

He doesn't seem to bother playing the model.

What a sweet pic! When our civvie twix decides to get in our laps, which is a rarity, we always sit very very very still .. if we were to pet her, she would get up and leave ..
