Today's AMPS 342, +6 235

Logan's doing well...eating and playing. He hasn't had any liquipoo in a week and only one small one in the last two weeks. He snuggled on the couch with me last night. That was super sweet. He's swatting the dogs...letting them know that he's back in charge of them. Niam absolutely adores Logan. Unfortunately, this adoration causes Niam to let Logan eat out of his bowl whenever he wants. So, we have to watch Logan when we feed the dogs. He hides behind the mirror in the corner of the bedroom, which is next to Niam's feeding stand...he then sticks his paw in the bowl and flicks out some kibble. If you catch him, he turns into Jello cat and won't look at you. He used to be really bad about the dog food but stopped when he got sick. He's gotten back into this habit over the last month or so. It's now a daily occurrence. He's a punk!

Niam is the dog that Logan had pinned by the neck last week. They play together a lot. I busted Niam bopping Logan in the face on Sunday. Niam will also "dance" in front of him trying to get him to play. That's his go-to move. It's pretty cute...and he knows it. He also does that whenever he's in trouble...very hard not to laugh!

It sounds as if you have a couple of real characters on your hands....the way you describe it I feel as if i am there watching those tow! So cute! but that little Logan and his pretty yellow +6 is a little punk for sure! Hiding behind the mirror like that...wow...gotta watch him, right?
Well, there is absolutely NO kibble in this house so when he gets here, he knows that Max & Raja will have their eyes peeled for any contraband stuff that anyone smuggles in...Logan will NOT get any at all! Happy Full Moon day to you Kelly! What time should Logan be home .....4am is good? or maybe 5am?

After all you guys have gone through in recent months, it thrills me to read stories of Logan exhibiting lots of true Logan behavior, be it adorable, mischievous, or scold-worthy. I can only imagine how happy it must make you to be living it! Fingers, toes, and everything possible crossed that this marks the start of a happy new chapter for Logan and family.

I was also thinking about the potential effect the prednisone may still be having on Logan's BG numbers. I know when I weaned Quincy off prednisone after he was diagnosed with diabetes, my vet felt that it could still be in his system for a while and that was part of the reason for his hesitation in starting Quincy on insulin (I know now we should have, and just monitored carefully, but that's water under the bridge now). So, I guess in a way prednisone has some sort of "shed" that needs to be depleted too. Next time you're at the vet's (hopefully not soon), you might ask him/her how long it takes for prednisone to work its way out of Logan's system.

They are pretty cute together. It's amazing how well the dogs and cats get along. Logan was the first cat to accept Niam as a puppy. He learned that Niam was a good snuggle buddy. Olivia (other dog) has bonded with Morgan. They taunt and torment each other nonstop. Morgan chases her around and traps her upstairs on a daily basis...hilarious, esp when you consider the fact that Olivia is a pit bull mix and has about 25 lbs on Morgan. Olivia was not cat friendly when we rescued her - took a lot of time and patience! She now loves her kitty brothers. Thank goodness! Now the guinea pigs at the vet's office, that's another story!

Maybe 5am...just tell him to let me sleep until my alarm goes off at 6!

It definitely seems to stay in the system for a while! He's still getting 2.5mg once a day - going to cut down to EOD if everything looks good on Tuesday. He had been at this dose for quite sometime and just all of a sudden threw us some blue #s last week. I think he dropped into the 100s the other night, too, but I missed it! It's like the pred is just built up and it takes a while to work its way out. The internist told us to watch his insulin dose that this could happen all of a sudden.

That's exactly what my vet said last year, and since he wasn't a vet who encourages his patients to home test, he was afraid of a hypo situation happening. So he wanted to be very, very sure those numbers in the 300s weren't going anywhere. I was bringing Quincy to the vet's every 2-3 weeks for a couple months just to check on his BG levels! That's when I started thinking, surely there must be another way, and found this community and all sorts of info on home testing and beyond.

Re: 5/27 Logan AMPS 342, +6 235

sounds like you have a very happy household right now! I hope its as pleasureable to come home to as it sounds.

It puts such a smile on my face to hear how well Logan is doing. Your patience and dedication sure do seem to be paying off!

Latte is obviously very sensitive to drugs. If she doesnt get a dose of her pred her bg's go down immediatly. When I first tried taking her off the pred and on insulin, her BG's pretty much were in normal range... or close to within a short time on .25u. Logan is still getting some, but has shown great improvements with the reductions. So yes, more tests are in your future! :)

(((kelly)))

Keep up the good work!

We have blue! Logan seems to be feeling great - he's been running around with his zippy pants on. He and Morgan have been chasing each other up and down the stairs.

Hearing that Logan is back to old behaviors is wonderful. It really does sound like he adores Niam. What a circus -- in only the nicest of ways. It has to keep you smiling.
