Curly's bs went from in the 300s at +6 to 76 at + 8. No signs of hypo. Is this too low or is he okay? See spreadsheet for values for the day. Yesterday he stayed high but I think I may not have given him the whole unit- I was afraid of pushing anything back into the vial and it may have had an air pocket.

Thanks

Curley did drop from HI to 101 on 5/25 so I guess this is about the same drop. What does Curley eat?

I have not posted in your condo yet so I should have said welcome to Lantus Land in my first post. :-D

When I get a number that seems out of sync, I re-test. I don't know what meter you use. Some meters do not give an error message if there's too little blood. I would just want to be sure that the number you have is accurate.

It is not too low. That's a very safe, non-diabetic range. Generally, we'd be more concerned and suggest feeding some HC if numbers are below 40.

I think i asked this in someone elses post- what is HC? High carb? I did give him some catsip and a few greenies and now he is eating some Friskies. I just tried to test him again but he is not having it. He is hiding where I can barely reach him. We have had a bad day testing wise and his ears have had it, I think. He usually doesn't like it but lets me do it but today he is actively unhappy with me. I must have wasted 5 strips and what kills me is I had a good amount of blood but the strip just hit it wrong i guess. That just happened again now so I will let him eat and then see if I can coax him out where i can try again. i am getting a little worried about the strips- these Contour stips are not cheap. I really need to find another One-Touch monitor.

I trry to get the ones that are at least 10-11% carbs, like the mixed grill, turkey and giblets feast, chicken and tuna, and salmon mainly.

Foods that are low carb are below 10% carb. Most of us end up feeding in the 3 - 5% range or below. Greenies are HC. Janet & Binky's food charts will help you to select LC foods. You should also have some HC (around 18% carb) on hand.

If you are concerned about the price of strips, I would suggest getting a Walmart brand meter -- the Relion. The meter and strips are inexpensive. Strips and insulin are the most expensive aspects of diabetes management.

Thanks for this! I posted with similar problem but have had no responses. I will probably break the rules and post again (with link to my original).

When Ragnar went OTJ last year, he was 45 at a spot test, probably lower sometime in the day. But it scares me to shoot a "fat 1u" when he was 61 at +7, 68 at +8. He might not even be up to 100 when I shoot that unit in.

My meter gives an error message - and we had plenty of blood. It's his real readings - and they are even lower than the 76,

Blessings! (and HELP!)

Shirley
