So it looks like we increase to 3.5 tomorrow AMPS. I did find the 1/2 unit syringes, thanks.

Discouraging results after last 2 increases but I understand this is a marathon not a sprint...Tiger's last two check ups have been good, she now weighs 9lbs, she gets outside for some pre-PMPS exercize, we love this sunshine, vet but wants her BG lower before any dental. She will have her 3 month hyperthyroid check in a few weeks. BP, urine lab work, and eye testing was good, however, these high numbers continue. I now feel comfortable trying to make a food switch, but she is a very picky eater. I gave 2T Fancy Feast Classic Checkin Feast for her snack mixed with 2T Purina DM, she did not turn up her nose like she did the last time. Also going to try Wellness Core and Spot's Pate later, trying to see if lower carb makes any difference. Any suggestions welcome

Hi Ruth, I agree on the increase to 3.5U tomorrow. These high numbers are hard to see - I went through the same thing. :YMHUG: There are many reasons that kitties can be more complicated to get regulated. Thyroid issues are one, as is pancreatitis, glucose toxicity, infections (including teeth) and high dose conditions.

When kitties are consistently seeing high nadirs, over 300, we can be a bit more aggressive in order to get Tiger to a better dose faster. What I'd recommend is doing a .5U increase every 4 cycles, until you are seeing yellow more consistently on Tiger's SS. So go to 3.5U for 4 cycles and keep increasing by .5U every 4 cycles until you see the majority of nadirs in the yellows. Once we see better nadirs, you can slow down to increases every 6 cycles. If you have any questions about whether it's time to slow down the increases, please post and ask.

As for food, I think a lot of people here feed food in the 3-6% carbs range. Purina DM (not the Savory Selects) is not a bad food for carbs. It's listed as 3%, but it's not a very good quality food. Liver is listed high on the ingredient list. People here just keep on trying something until they find what their kitty will eat. Paws crossed Tiger will like one of the ones you've bought.

i think going to the strategy of waiting 4 cycles and increase by 0.5u until you're seeing consistent yellows is a great idea, ruth. Some kitties just need more insulin, and as Wendy said there are a variety of reasons.

It is discouraging seeing your kitty stay in high numbers. I've been there too, and so have lots of other people. hang in there and she'll get to the right dose.
