Good Morning Everyone,

Rusty woke us up at daybreak with a gallop up the stairs, into the bedroom, a leap to the window sill and then a ricochet onto the bed. He had just been in his downstairs litterbox, made his contributions, and was really feeling good. Then he settled down and went back to sleep. Good test, good shot, 3 installments of breakfast. A happy kitty. And I'm about to go on a hike with my group. Edward will be here to "watch" (but can't test). The boys will spend some time outdoors. Back sometime around +9. Everyone have a good day. We have sunshine. Hoping the cellar will dry a little today because bad weather is expected for the next 2 days.
Thanks again for your anniversary wishes yesterday,

Ella & Rusty (in haste)

Good Morning Ella.
Sounds like a nice day all around. Your boys have a nice bonding day, and you get to hike in the sun for a change. :-D

I love how Rusty went from hyperactive to fast asleep in no time!!! I love that crazy running around. Champ does that sometimes and that's when I know all is okay with him because it's how he was pre-FD.

Have fun on your hike and, please God, no more rain so your poor cellar can dry out!!

Happy hump day!! :-D

Re: 5/25 Rusty AMPS 124

Another fun day for you, Edward and Rusty, each in your own way. :-D Sorry i missed your Anniversary yesterday. Sounded like a perfect way to celebrate. No need to put on uncomfortable shoes!

Re: 5/25 Rusty AMPS 124, +7.5 118, PMPS 156

Hi again,
It looks like I might have given a fur shot, or partial fur shot, this morning. Neither Edward nor I smelled insulin, but Rusty's numbers are not what they would be if the shot had been good. +7.5 should be close to nadir, but it is virtually the same number as AMPS. Rusty was fast asleep around +9 and I didn't want to wake him, so the next test was PMPS. Anyway, my boys had a lovely day with 2 long relaxing tours of the garden. Rusty rolled on the brick walkway and was covered in little leaves and bits of dust. But Edward brushed it off.
Our hike was a bushwhack through dense underbrush alongside a river (Ampersand Creek) to a natural dam. Hobblebush is well named!! The forest was extraordinarily lovely, however, despite the blackflies, which were fierce. I had to wear my headnet (makes eating lunch difficult). It was a gorgeous day of sunshine.
Off to visit some condos,
Hope all is well in LL,
Ella & Rusty

Hi guys - well bummer on the partial fur shot. He'll recover soon enough. Still not too bad...

I really had a chuckle over thinking of Rusty roiling on the ground and covering himself with dust and leaves. That is so Mannie. He is constantly bringing portions of the yard in his fur. And I am constantly hauling it back out again.

I hope you enjoyed your hike. :-D bushwhacking huh? those are alwasy fun. sorry for all the flies. Been on a couple of those too - never a joy, but one deals. I hope you were able to successfully eat your lunch. :-D

have a great night Ella.

Guess the boys will be home late - some mumblings about a party in Canada....

So judging by her behavior in the shot area, I wouldnt be able to tell--she cries out shot or not grumpy_cat angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat :RAHCAT Jave a nice night!! Big Hugs from us & Lub!!

Re: 5/25 Rusty AMPS 124, +7.5 118, PMPS 156

Yup, Rusty does the same thing! Cries out even when the syringe is nowhere near him! That's why I get down there and smell his fur!
Thanks for the deerfly info., Barb, I've seen those patches, but these "flies" are blackflies: small chewing insects that are worst at this time of year (they are usually gone by the end of June). They are pretty much limited to the Northern forests and they love sunny, hot weather. Edward had some get inside his headnet once and at the end of the paddle his face looked like hamburger! The bites last and are terribly itchy for more than a week--big, red welts. We use a local repellant called "By By Blackfly".

Re: 5/25 Rusty AMPS 124, +7.5 118, PMPS 156

those sound awful. we got chased out of a hike in central oregon one time by flies that had just hatched. we were practically running from them and every time we stopped to rest they swarmed us. when they got in my mouth i'd had it. they won and we left. never go hiking when the flies have just hatched. *shudders*

thanks for the tip about calling the manufacturer. i'll try it - you had the just right things to say without incriminating me for sticking a needle into the pen! that shouldn't matter anyway - if i thought it was the problem i would be honest and not pursue it, but i really think the pen doesn't work right. they get enough money from us - i appreciate getting to use the entire product.

Ohhhhhh, you're talking about those nasty little gnats? They call them 'no see 'ums', here in Buffalo area.
I haaaaate those rotten little biting things. They get right into your eyes even. Grrrrrrrrr!!!

Bummer on the furshot, but it happens and Rusty doesn't zoom into the stratosphere like some kitties I won't mention. ohmygod_smile

Re blackflies, sorry i couldn't resist.

The Film Board of Canada has some great videos.

Ann, that video is just like it is!! And boy, were we ever swarmed today by clouds of them. Even my friend who is a North Country "native" thought they were bad.

Ni ni everyone, Rusty seems to be coming down. His usual time of onset is right about now.

Awww Ella bummer on the fur shot. Ok ok, you can have the title of the Queen of fur shots. I actually took Leo to the vet today to get his shoulders shaved cause i was so upset with myself after the fur shot episode. Fur shot NO MORE! Have you ever shaved Rusty's shoulders? Even despite the fur shot he still had a nice blue day!

Sounds like you had a great hike today, minus the blackfly's. They are the absolute bane of my existence, where i work they are black clouds in the sky. I do a LOT of field work and suffer in the summer months, at least where i work its so far north that we only have summer for 3 or so months. They get so bad they go up your nose, in your mouth when you take a breath, go in your ears, they climb up the pants of my coveralls and inside my socks and workboots and bite me there. You are absolutely right they leave giant welts.

The film board of Canada has my absolute favorite video, i can watch it 10 times a day and still laugh my head off, check it out when you get the chance, its called The Big Snit.
