Happy Hump Day, Lantus Land!!! I've been looking forward to today because my daughter and I, along with a couple of her friends, are going for sushi late this afternoon. Since sushi is to me what flip-flops are to Champ and nanners are to Mannie (and other kitkats), I'm verrrry excited!!!

Champ is being his laid-back, window-sitting, bird-watching, air-sniffing kitty self this morning. No attack on flip flops this morning, but last night he attacked my daughters brand new sparkly silver ones!! I told her she's not allowed to yell at the cat for putting holes in her shoes if she chooses to leave them out for him to get. She knows he has an uncontrolled addiction! I don't know what it is about my daughter's shoes, but he actually licks them, like Punkin was doing to Anya. I seriously think he considers the flip-flops his girlfriends. Good thing he's a eunuch because those would be some funny looking babies!! :lol: :lol:

Interesting story...my next door neighbor's cat was diagnosed with diabetes the day before Champ (how weird). Her cat, Bella, was put on an oral medication. She changed her cat from dry to Fancy Feast classics (she did her own research and found out about this being a good food for diabetes) and now Bella is on a half a 5 mg tab of whatever the medication is. She doesn't do home testing and was going into the vet's office for them to check Bella's BGs for which they charged her $20. I told her that was crazy and I could teach her in minutes and she would be surprised by how easy it is. I have two meters so I took by backup over there (a Relion-good meter) and checked Bella's BG which was a 73. She's going to stop the oral meds and test Bella's BGs to see if they remain normal. I left my meter with her until she gets her own so she doesn't have an excuse not to test!! I'll just bet Bella is one of the lucky one's where diet alone put her into the normal range.

So....I guess I better get back to work so I can earn some money so I can get sushi more often :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hi guys .. pink pants for champ this morning .. Hope he changes to blue ones soon .. what a funny story about champ thinking flip flops are his girlfriends :lol: That sure would be great if your neighbors cat was a diet controlled kitty .. Enjoy your sushi today!!

Champ decided to bounce up the hump, huh? Good chance to go out for sushi, YUM! Yeah, great reason to work! All those little orders can really add up! :lol:

Patty, what a great neighbour you are, helping out another person with their kitty. Weird coincidence tho.

Champers is a funny guy with his shoe fetish, sounds like no flip flops are safe around him.

Leo and Champ are hanging on the same floors today, its lots of bouncy bouncy fun! We should get them trampolines ;-)

:lol: :lol: OMG that is so funny. Is this something Champ developed over time or has he always been "in love" with flip flops?

That is really very cool what you did for your neighbor, I wonder if she knows how lucky she is to have you close by.. May i ask what type of med her Bella is on? Was the vet just willing to continue to take her money or did he discuss with her that perhaps Bella was getting better?
I hope it's found out that she is just one of those kitties that can be controlled with the right diet..

Hi Squirrel, I don't know what med it is, but from what I've read no oral medication has been found to be very effective in cats, if at all. She started the med before changing the diet so she really doesn't know if the diet change alone would have been all that was needed. I told her to go ahead and discontinue the med and test. If the BGs were remaining low, she was good to go and would need to test intermittently...I said once a week, but that's because I belong to overtester's anonymous!! I figure once a week isn't overkill and that way you catch a rise in BGs early. I did tell her to test before she feeds so there was no mistaking a food spike for a higher than normal BG. I wish vets would offer the option of hometesting to their clients. Yes, many would probably still go to the vet's office to have them do it, whether out of fear of not being able to do it or not wanting to bother, but there are many others out there who would like to save the time and money involved and do it themselves....if they only knew they could. And, yes, Champ has had a shoe fetish since he was little. You should see him with tennis shoes, especially if you just took them off your feet. He puts his head inside the shoe and then starts kicking it with his back feet. You've never seen anything so hilarious... a headless cat beating up a tennis shoe!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hi Tracy, let's tell our cats to get down to the first floor. They both would look so purty handsome in blue!! I'm going out for sushi in a couple hours so if he stays in low yellows today, even a high blue, I wouldn't mind it a bit. I haven't eaten all day long just so I can have as much sushi as I want and not feel guilty!!! :lol:

Too funny about the shoe fetish. I gues Champ is the Imelda Marcos of cats! That is so great that you have helped your neighbor with her cat. What a wonderful story. I wish I was going for sushi..yum!!

So here we go!!! He's had his allottment of food this evening in three installments. I don't know if I should feed a certain number if it comes up and what to feed, or if I should not feed anything at all. Any advice welcome

Woohoo!! Champ is wearing green! And its only +3....oh geez you could be in for a looooong night, but still very exciting.

I've gotta tell ya Patty, i'm a little bit jealous and wish someone i know would step down into green.

How was the sushi date with the DD?

Hey Tess!!! I'm excited cuz my mamabean is so happy with me!!! And my sissybean said she would stay up with me tonight when mamabean gets tired and wants to go to bed. Sissybean's a little more fun than mamabean cuz she likes to wrestle...and she's got really tasty flip-flops!!

Patty that really depends on your comfort level.. The other day when Tommy started dropping to 70's then all the way to 48, I was instructed to give 1tbsp of HC gravy, test in 15-30 if no change really then the same thing only add 1/2tsp or so of karo to the food and test again in 15-30 until you feel a safe number has been reached. But remember what they say, that the HC and Karo wear off pretty quick so you'll want to keep testing until you see Champs numbers at least start to rise and stay up. I sure hope that helps a little..Perhaps some one with more experience will come along for advice.. I wish you luck with your boy tonight.
If nobody else will be around, I'll sure stay up with you for some support if you need it..

So I decide what number is the lowest I want to go before giving gravy? His lowest number ever was 72 before he started to rise and that was feeding nothing more than a spoonful of 3% FF. I guess it's all just a crap shoot until you know what your cat will do on any given occasion, collecting data as you go.

Hi Tracy!! The sushi was flippin AWESOME!! It was so good I brought home two rolls for dinner tonight...and I ate them when my DD was in the shower so I didn't have to share! :lol:

And btw...if you look at Champ's SS, you'll see I've had to keep increasing his insulin, usually every three days, until we finally, FINALLY, started hitting blues and then green. Leo's turn is right around the corner and I'll celebrate like he was my own!! :-D

Yeah, you know with Tommy it's a bit different I suppose because of the Acro, I was a little concerned when he got that low, but yeah your absolutely right.. Seeing as how Champ has been down there at least once before and he came up ok with what you did for him you should be ok.. It looks as though you're about 4hours into his pm shot, so the Lantus should be starting to work fully so yes you might see a bit lower number or Champ could do the right thing and surf for the night :mrgreen: .. If there's one thing i've learned being here is that Data, Data, Data, and more data..

I just saw your post above mine.. so the sushi was YUMMY!!!.. I have to ask are we talking sushi like from a chinese restaurant where they have them at the buffet and have the different rolls all cut up into smaller pieces, because i really like them alot.. Or do you have some special place that you've gone to forever that makes them special for you? Cause i'm really thinking they should start paying you for eating their food.. :-D

Hahahaha. Yeah, I have a favorite Japanese restaurant I go to called Kabuki's. FABULOUS!!! I don't like raw fish sushi. I only like the rolls that have cooked fish, crab, lobster, or just veggies. It's so Weight Watcher's friendly. I can eat it and not have blown my eating plan for the day. I've lost over 30 pounds and that's with pigging out on sushi about once a week!!

I gave Champ a small teaspoon of Friskies 13% (his old food before I knew better). I'll check his BG again in 15 minutes.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I could stand to lose that much. All of that is from weight watchers? Hopefully that little bit of friskies will bring it up just a bit . yeah cooked fish sounds much better but I do like the other type also. I wonder where I could find that around here

So exciting, i'm staying up til Leo's +6 which is another 45 minutes or so, so i'm here with you!

Great news about the 30 lbs, that's amazing. And no doubt sushi is good for you, its super yum..............great, now i'm hungry :lol:

I bet if you ask around, there will be someone who has a favorite sushi place in your town. Most Japanese restaurants have sushi, too...I think :lol:

I think next time I'm going to hold off on giving any MC and see how low he'll go au naturel or how well he'll surf. He just didn't stay low as long as I would have liked. I'll check him again at +6
