I just don't understand why Simon is so much higher in the AM. He usually will show me some greens later on in the day but hardly ever in the AM. I do give him a little snack at +8. Maybe I'll try switching it to +7 or +9 to see what happens. Simon is good today, ate breakfast, visited with his girlfriend Rosie who stopped by for a little snack, and is now sitting by the fireplace waiting for the birds to start chirping. They built a nest at the top of the fireplace.

Have a wonderful day!

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140

That's nice that Rosie stopped by to visit Simon.

The liver normally releases a little glucose into the bloodstream during the day..and sometimes releases alot more overnight......So kitty has a higher bg in the morning. That's my understanding.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140

I remember someone referring to the "Dawn Phenomenon"...kitties running higher in the morning than the evening. Trixie tends to do the same thing...ner AMPS is almost always notably higher than her PMPS.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140

Aww so Simon also has a girlfriend, so cute. Glad he had a nice visit and his day is off to a good start. Hope his amps come down soon.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140

Billy used to be higher in the morning than during the evening, too. I'm guessing that Dawn Phenomenon Trixie is talking about might be it.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140

As others said, it's likely Dawn Phenomenon. However, this isn't the effect of glucose. The body releases cortisol -- a corticosteroid -- as a means of preparing the body for the stress of the day. Cortisol has the effect of raising BG levels. It's a natural phenomenon.

What would you think about fattening Simon's dose? I think it may help to drop his overall level a bit.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140

Hi Georgia. I've been following the discussion today about #s in the AM. Interesting info for the learning here, today. But, I looked at the SS of two kitties who recently went OTJ and didn't see where their AM #s were higher. Why would that be true? I'm sorry to ask this ? in your condo, but that's where the topic is being discussed. Is that what people mean when they 'hijack your condo'? If it is, I'm sorry  I just feel that since the ultimate goal of all beans on this forum is to get their kitties OTJ, it the more info we have, the better chance we have of understanding the process.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140 +6 119

Bev, Yes, it is a little frustrating to see all the OTJ kitties with their great AM numbers and Simon's numbers much higher. Simon has always been higher in the AM so i guess I definitely need to go up a little on his dose to see if that will change. I just don't want him going too low in the late evening, when I am asleep.

Simon has thrown up again 2 days in a row when I have come back to test him at lunch. Of course it is hairballs and I am guessing it is because he is grooming himself lots more due to the hot weather.

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140 +6 119

Hi guys - I know on the dawn phenomenon thing - understand the concept, but not much else.... Mannie has a tenancy to do that as well, though not every day. And I can't answer Bev's question. why would that be....

Good luck with the dosecrease. Not my expertise at all, but maybe just fatten to dose, like to a F.25, if you are concerned about the evening hours.

Have a great day guys!

Re: 5/24 Simon AMPS 140 +6 119

Champ's PMPS is almost alway higher than his AMPS, but his numbers at night are almost always lower than his numbers during the day. So...how's that for confusing??!!

I hope Simon gives you a good day!! :-D
