Re: 5/22 Tiggy AMPS 250 +8 153 ?dose increase

Up again.. up and up and up.. how high will he go.. nobody knows..

He has the vet on Monday. Going to check for UTI or other infection, and do the high dose blood tests.

I see Tiggy responded well to that dosecrease comment. Good luck with the new dose. Paws crossed for more greens.

Did you get a quote from the vet for the tests? I got a urine C&S and regular B/W and the IGF-1/IAA tests at the same time and got a bit of a shock at the bill. Of course, shipping will be cheaper from your part of the country.

It looks like the IAA and igf will be $100, and the blood probably a good $200.. So I can see a $500 bill.. Or worse?

Also considering a switch to levemir to see if that helps.. Thoughts?

Pretty decent prices on the tests. It cost me $150 for the IAA and $320 for the IGF-1.

You might want to change your first post to ask the Lev question. Does Tiggy seem to notice the shot? Neko didn't and she got up to where Tiggy is now. One of the reasons for changing to Lev is if the cat if feeling the sting of Lantus. Would you change Bailey too?

Levemir is a great insulin, too, and Wendy is correct.....it does not sting. Lantus seems to sting more the higher the dose although I never got to more than f1.25u with Gracie on lantus and it stung so ECID.

One of the great things about lev is the later onset...typically around +4 so it allows you to shoot low more consistently and still have some time before the next shot onsets. You need to consider whether the late nadir (+8 to +12) would work for you.

Switching to lev is not a guarantee that Tiggy will flatten out. Some cats like Tess, Putty, Pats Shadow, Checkers still bounce quite a bit. While Gracie still bounces, lev has flattened her out more than I could ever get her on lantus. Take a look at some of the SSs I mentioned as well as Alex, Libby's Jazzy, Rustyy, etc....all lev cats. jazzy was acro.

Perhaps you want to wait until you can get the tests done, and see the results before you switch? If not, let me know and I can give you more info.

eta: I do think it's worthwhile to consider switching him. It's been over a year now that you've used lantus and sometimes a change can help. If you aren't going to have him tested anytime soon, then I'd give it a try.
