Georgia and Simon (GA)
Member Since 2010
It has been about a year since I have posted. I see lots of new people here -- LL has been quite busy! Hopefully, a few people remember us. I have missed everyone but things just got in the way and life has been a little overwhelming. Simon is doing ok -- he will be 17 in a little over a month and has been diabetic for 3 1/2 years. He is slowing down alot, especially with arthritis. He gets Adequan injections, but he is still very stiff and not jumping up on anything anymore. His BG is very erratic and lots higher and he is very had to regulate. Bloodwork shows the beginning of some kidney issues but not bad. We started giving him fluids mainly to help him with his IBD issues.. Overall, he is still the sweet, loving kitty he was a year ago, only a little more geriatric (I can relate!).
The last time I posted, I had just adopted Missy from the no-kill pet shelter about 3 months after I lost my precious kitty, Cleo. Missy and Simon did not get along in the beginning, especially around mealtime. Missy was running up to Simon and being mean to him because she thought Simon was going to take her food. Missy had previously been owned by an older woman who died from a stroke. Missy had saved this woman's life at one point when a fire broke out in her home and Missy licked the woman awake and they both escaped. The woman then started overfeeding Missy until Missy got to be 28 pounds! At the shelter, Missy was 18.5 pounds when I adopted her (she had been there 2 years) but she also had stomatitis (the shelter had not diagnosed it). Missy has had all her teeth except canines out and is doing well except for arthritis issues (she is about 13 years old and due to being so overweight, it has stressed her joints). The good part is Missy and Simon are now getting along! I think Missy realizes that Simon is not a threat anymore and in fact, Missy has learned that the sound of the glucometer means dinnertime so she loves when Simon gets tested. They are right now sitting next to each other on my bed. Simon and Missy will never have that special bond that Simon and Cleo had, but they at least will live happily next to each other.
So sorry this post is so long! I will update more in another condo. I have missed everyone and will be posting more regularly from now on. Happy Thursday!
