Saturday's condo

Got a scary number this morning! 553 at about 7:30 am. Thought my tired eyes would bug out of their sockets. :shock: HOPING that this RB is because he may have gotten a lovely number last night at some point and his body is rebelling! Seems to have come down off of it alright, and I'm going to check him again at +6 to see what his nadir this cycle is.

You're tellin' me! And he's a pill to test in the morning too, because he just wants his BREFFIS BREFFIS BREFFIS.

Yikes!! Yes it is hard to see, but Sienne warned you about the bouncing and you got it! ohmygod_smile He's turned around already, but this is a fast drop too so don't be surprised if it happens again. Some cats have different reaction to insulin, early onsets, very bouncy or completely as expected (that doesn't happen very often!)

If we see a 50 point drop or more we can usually expect a bounce. Today onset has just started and this is an average of 80 /hour. How are you feeding him? Many of us faced w/ a fast drop like this will give a little extra food to slow things down, LC, MC or even HC depending on the cat.

I feed him at AMPS, +4, +7, +10, PMPS, and +4 again just to keep him on a steady flow of getting food every few hours, and so that I can test him "fasted" at +3, +6, and +9 (ideally) besides his AMPS & PMPS numbers.

I'm about to check him again in 30 minutes, so I'll update with that number.

Alrighty - just tested him at +6, and got 304, so looks like the morning drama is over. We'll see what his PMPS is! Thanks for the tips, Ann & Tess!

Is there a reason that you're feeding Mr. Kink late in the cycle? You may want to consider that if you feed past nadir, your insulin is past it's most active period. As a result, there's less insulin available to offset the effect of the food. It will cause Mr. K's numbers to rise late in the cycle. Generally, you want to feed before the nadir. At the very least, I'd eliminate the +10 feeding and redistribute that meal to earlier in the cycle.

It's really just to keep him (semi) full. If he doesn't have food every few hours he cries and cries (and cries and cries). And lays by his food bowl. And yells at anyone anytime they go into the kitchen. It gets old - FAST. ohmygod_smile

But if it could be negatively affecting his numbers, we could skip that feeding and just redistribute to earlier meals, and see how it goes. I'm gonna work on getting more nadir data in the next couple of days to help with a doscrease decision soon. From past days, though, I'm a little confused because it looks like his nadir has been at +5 usually?

Zener is doing MUCH better tonight and so are we - thanks for asking. One thing that helped Zener with the morning testing was to get an autofeeder for overnight. He had a couple of scarf-and-barfs, probably from not eating, and none since getting the autofeeder. That might help Mr. Kink with not being so hungry in the mornings.
