No yesterday post, but here's a recap.

Well, my migraine is a bit better, but I woke up to my sheets and blanket on the floor. This never happens, so I guess I had a rough night, but didn't wake up (probably meds). My body is pretty bad, so I can't drive and so I can't take Daphne anywhere, the good news is she is walking ok and eating, so she may not be in as much pain as last night. I put the heat on in the house, so that probably helps her… until I figure the bupe issue out.

So, I'm still working on the bupe issue. I can't believe, well, I guess I can… I called the vet (who gave me the prefilled syringes), the one pharmacy I deal for myself, a compounding pharmacy in town, google searches, and the maker of Buprenex, and even BD syringe Comp. All but one said, they would not comment on how to figure out dose from this stupid syringe that my vet gave me, because they said, "We can't help you, because we would be liable", and I guess I understand, but again, disappointed in people,… their first thought is to worry about lawsuits.

When I called the vet who gave me the prefilled syringes, she confirmed that it was the right amount prefilled in the syringe. I'll write down again what I have and maybe someone can figure this out.
The syringe is a U40, it is filled to capacity, which is 20 units, it also says on the syringe 1/2cc. The bag that they came in, on the label, Buprinorphine 0.15 MI perMl, 10 dosing syringes, Each syringe contains one dose. (This was made up by the vet's compounding place)

I want to go and put hot moist towels on Daphne now, and my own pain is bad too, so I'll be back a little later, once I get some relief for the both of us :YMSIGH:

Re: 5/21 Daphne AMPS 117 Bupe. unresolved

Can you call her and ask her to just give them to you in a regular syringe with .1ml markings instead of an insulin syringe?

Hope the migraine goes bye bye soon (((Barb)))

Re: 5/21 Daphne AMPS 117 Bupe. unresolved

Actually...I just had another idea. Can you call the pharmacist you use or the local compounding pharmacy and ask if they have syringes for up to a 1ml dose with .1ml markings? Then you could take one of the prefilled syringes, put the dose in the regular, non insulin syringe, and see how much it actually is.

My compounding pharmacy gives those syringes away free to customers.

Marje, but don't I have to know how strong the bupe is. The vet said something about it having more liquid because its a smaller dose then the .3ml like I requested after I read what everyone here uses?

I just looked at my hyper. kit because I remember I took the free (not sure what its called, has a bulb on top to suck up meds, like for liquid cold syrup for children), and it has ml markings.

Re: 5/21 Daphne AMPS 117, PMPS 80 Bupe. unresolved

I think bupe comes as a powder and it is mixed with (probably) saline or some other aqueous solution. It may depend on how the vet diluted it.

However, is it in a syringe with a needle?

Re: 5/21 Daphne AMPS 117, PMPS 80 Bupe. unresolved

I have very little experience with bupe, so I'm of now real help...but maybe you could post a picture of the syringes you have to possibly clarify to others what's what??? I'm not sure if that will help you or not, but it could be worth a try.

Yep, the weather has re-yuckied here, hasn't it? I hope it's not taking too much of a toll on you and Daphne. Take care of yourselves!!

Re: 5/21 Daphne AMPS 117, PMPS 80 Bupe. unresolved

Sienne, thats the problem, if I knew how much powder she put in, then I could figure out what amount of the bupe is in it. My DH just came home and he is intelligent, not like me, hopeless with most things. So he said, he may be able to look at some conversion charts…but still, how will we know how much of the main ingredient is in it.

Amy, you may be on to something, if a pic would help.

I actually tasted it today, to make sure it didn't have sugar in it, and it didn't taste like anything, so at least it doesn't have sugar.

I need to go and give Daphne some heat, and I'm still not over this migraine, it hurts to read. I'll come back later tonight, hopefully, I will be a little better.

Thanks as always LL, I feel so bad, I think I take so much more then I give, and you are all such a wonderful giving group of people. I love all animals and feel guilty I can't help most, (because of my illness) so my solution is to donate, so it will be my solution here as well, it helps me to not feel so guilty...

Re: 5/21 Daphne AMPS 117, PMPS 80 Bupe. unresolved

Don't worry about that , Barb. You visiting condos and supporting other members is huge.

I wasn't thinking about the strength of it. I just wondered if you put it in a ml syringe if it would actually be .15 ml just to equate the number of units with the metric volume. What I don't understand is mine is .3 mg/ml. So a solid to a liquid. You said .15ml/ml which suggests a liquid to a liquid and so none of us can figure the strength. For a .3 mg/ml concentration, .15ml would be safe to give a 9-10 lb cat every 6-8 hours.

Oh Barb, please don't ever feel guilty for asking for help. No one here is keeping score. Some days we need help, and some days we give it.
Having said that, I feel the same way. There are days, that I can just barely get a condo started, and just cannot visit others.
I say little and try to hide at the bottom of the list. People still visit Checks condo, and offer support.

We are family, and care if you're hurting. We want to help. I am no advice giver, but if I can offer an encouraging word, I try.

I truly want this bupe problen solved, so Daphne can feel better. It helps Checkers greatly!!

OMG, Marje, its my fault I guess. When I first called the vet, I copied the info from my post on to a sticky and read it off to her, as .3ml/mg. I found my note, this is what I wrote, when I talked to vet, "Buprenorphine, concentration is .3ml/mg and it is injectable, but most people put the dose in pouch… " Do you see what I did, I put .3ml, instead of .3mg and put the /mg behind it.
I'm confirming my confusion issue over and over these days. The migraine is coming back.

Good news is Daphne ate well tonight, and her +5 is 67, so I guess her pain can't be too bad. I'll give her a little hot towel and massage when I get done here. (I'm learning that I can massage her, and she really looks like she likes it). I know I read others do it here too.

Thanks Marje and Barb also, for your kind words, it helps. And Barb, I'll do my best to resolve this bupe thing, I don't want Checkers to worry

And "my" confusion continues  I wonder if this story/post will ever end. So I have another update to my confused brain. I just looked at the receipt (part of the reason I didn't know some of this is because my cousin picked it up and took it to my sisters house), so I never asked the questions at pickup to the tech. But I did talk to the vet a few times, so anyway, I'm reading the receipt/printout now (just found this) and it has "Buprenorphine 0.15mg/ml per ml" and under the quantity its has 4.5 (have no idea what that means because she gave me 10 prefilled syringes.)

I'm sorry, I must sound like a flake, but I'm just really having a lot of brain fog for some reason this week…I guess why the migraine also. Don't know whats going on with me. I wish DH was here more and could help me, but he needs to work when the work is there, and it is, so he needs to do what he needs to do.

So if I find out that the syringe is holding .15mg, then that is ok to use then right? And I'm not going to give her the .15mg anyway, I want to only give her a very small amount, like half of that or even less at first.

Well, I think I feel a little better now, I hope this is right. I also think I need a lot of sleep, and Daphne is ok, and her numbers are ok, so I may stay in bed for as long as my body will let me. My son will be in and out tomorrow, so I can tell him to check on her so I can sleep a little more.
