It actually doesn't matter when cats get a steroid. So if morning works for you, give it then.

Nice to see more, longer stretches of blues.

Thanks @Wendy&Neko , I am glad to hear from you... I wanted to ask you about budesonide.
I have read different threads on this topic and you had commented on a lot of them.
So between your experience, and your talking to others who had cats on budesonide, I wanted your input.

Toeby seems to be doing well on the steroids...
He had been a barfy cat much of his life, and had to go to the vet for help passing furballs a couple times.
But, the barfing got worse in the last couple years.

A couple vets, upon examining him at different times, had mentioned that his intestines felt "ropey" which might indicate neoplasia (cancer).
In November, the veterinarian of longest tenure at our clinic (40 +/- years) examined him when he had a bad bout of barfing and diarrhea and wrote:
"Ruleouts - neoplasia - bowel, or inflammatory bowel disease. Trial of prednisolone and course of metronidazole for diarrhea"
"If not responding - xrays, ultrasound, possible barium series"
"Note neoplasia of bowel difficult to detect if intraluminal"
We also talked about possible food allergies, and adding pumpkin to his diet and lots of things.
We discussed how prednisolone carried a risk of causing diabetes, but we went ahead, and Toeby did really well on it for a couple months, then he developed diabetes.
So, we switched to the budesonide... I was hoping it might mean I could regulate his BG's and maybe see his way off of insulin.
He it still (touching wood) doing great on budesonide....
He's on 1 mg a day, in either compounded tablets, or compounded chews.
He has only very, very rarely barfed, and I put it down to fur.

So!
My question is, after all that preamble... is budesonide something that normally you do a trial of, then wean off, and see if the bowel is calmer?
Or do they stay on it all their lives?
I think I read your kitty was on budesonide all her life?
Toeby has been on either the pred or the budesonide for 6 months now.
If you could share some of your experience or knowledge, I would greatly appreciate it.

I had read somewhere on the Facebook page that there is a classic cancer-related response to insulin, involving bounces, and I often wonder if that is what I am fighting with Toeby.
Did I read that right? I don't tend to trust a lot of what I read on the FB group.
If he has cancer, as many vets have suggested he might, that would not be a surprise in a 16 year old kitty.

I can't address your question to Wendy. Just wanted you to keep an eye on Toeby this morning. He dropped more that 100 points between AMPS and +2. Can you give him a tsp. of m/c food. My Susie did the same thing yesterday and just continued to drop and drop.......... You might have to feed the curve today to help slow him down a tad.

When I am testing him on the hour I've been giving him Wellness canned Kitten Chicken... I think it is 5% carbs?
I like to give him the kitten food because a) he'll eat it, and b) he is pretty thin so the extra calories shouldn't hurt.
I also give him some Purebites freeze dried chicken with tests, but I realize that is zero carbs.

He also eats his regular food, Stella & Chewy Tummy Ticklin' Turkey, which I think is 13% carbs in its dry form, before being reconstituted with water, and Weruva pouches which I think are less than 2% carbs as fed, and low carb Fancy Feast pates.
We let our 2 cats graze all day, refilling the bowls as necessary, until 2 hours before shot time.

I do keep a bunch of cans of gravy food on hand to use if needed.

@Summer and Susie I am keeping an eye this morning, and hope he goes okay and I thank you for your concern... it is nice to know you are watching.
I also canceled my plans with my friends yesterday which, in hindsight, I didn't have to.
Oh well.

Laura, I just realized this was not a new post but yesterdays. I am concerned about Toeby. Please start a new post for today that looks like this

? 5/21, Toeby, Dropping Fast. Need Advice

Make sure you attach this post to your thread. You will get more attention with a new post for today and the ? in front of it.

@Summer and Susie his +4 was 88... I will keep an eye on him and do what I have been told to do before - watch closely and feed him without resorting to Dr. Elseys dry.
The last time I gave him dry Dr. Elseys because he readily eats it and it's higher in carbs, I was told not to do it.
I think this next hour will tell the tale... he always seems to drop early, and when he drops, he drops FAST.
So far this is nothing new...

And yes, it was yesterday I canceled my plans, not today.
This post we are "conversing" on is yesterday's post...
Yesterday at +5 he was 184... we'll see what he does today - I am updating my new May 21 post accordingly.

Okay, if you are comfortable. He did drop a lot since AMPS and I thought someone with expertise should keep an eye on him. Looks like he leveled off a little but I do wish you would post a new thread soon. Just in case.

Not sure what you mean Summer.... I posted a new, separate thread first thing this morning for Friday May 21.
I replied to Wendy's post on this May 20th thread because this is where she originally posted....
Then you posted below my question for Wendy.
And, of course, I hope @Wendy&Neko reads my reply to her as I am looking forward to her insight about Budensonide. If this is not the correct way to post things, someone can let me know?
