Walter is almost blue! Now let's hope that this means that this latest bounce (or whatever it is that he is doing) is breaking.

And my day already started bright an early with a trip to our vet clinic. I have always had some feral cats in the neighborhood, but after getting everyone spayed and neutered, it's been years since I have seen any kittens. Earlier this spring though, I noticed two new kittens. So, obviously, there are some new cats in the neighborhood. After talking to a few neighbors yesterday, it appears that the mom was left behind by people who moved last fall. She is semi-social by now and is already pregnant again (her last litter is about 3-4 months old).

I also found out that one of the kittens is injured (my neighbor described it as a "tumor" on his/her side, which is probably not very likely at his/her age. Maybe an abscessed bite wound?). Either way, it sounds like s/he desperately needs to see a vet (in addition to getting everyone spayed and neutered). I set two traps last night and immediately caught mom. She is now resting in my basement until I can figure out how pregnant she really is. For now, she is eating like a horse and not too happy with me.

I also caught what I assume is dad. He is definitely feral and is getting neutered today. I also saw the two older kittens this morning, but they are avoiding the traps so far. Send some good thoughts my way that I can catch the little guys and get them checked out.

Hope you catch the little ones and get them fixed too! Hope Walter slides down for you too!

You continue to amaze me with how big your heart is along with many others here on the board. I've rescued a few but get it really gets me upset and sad. Luckily I haven't seen any around at this house. Good luck catching the babies. Ok Walter.....work the juice buddy nice. A good surf into the lagoon please.

I just checked the trap again and no luck yet. I'll keep trying though!

A friend of mine is coming over in a bit and we will try to get a better look at the mama cat and put some Revolution on her. She is a long-haired black cat, so it's hard to tell from a distance how big her belly might be and if there's any milk coming in yet.

The last time I had a cat hanging around outside and decided to spay her before she had babies under our deck, it turned out to be a neutered male and guess who couldn't put him back outside after his trip to the vetty? Yup. Meet Boomer lol.

Too funny! I have definitely been wrong before, but, in this case, I know that she is the mother to the two other kittens - so she is female and unspayed (and, most likely, pregnant).

I think our funniest mix-up was when, a few years ago, someone dumped a box with 3 tiny kittens and an adult brown tabby in front of our shelter. Everyone assumed that the tabby was the mom and we stuck "her" into a cage with the kittens. However, "she" refused to nurse and acted not very motherly. It wasn't until the first time "she" used the litter box though that we realized that we had just put a tom cat into a cage with tiny kittens.

Rather than catching the injured kitten, I just walked up to a possum in the trap. Apparently, before he started playing possum, he pooped all over everything. Not just the trap, but also the plate with the leftover food, the sheet, and himself. But, after all of that, he was pretty sure he died of shame and wouldn't budge. As I was trying to get a poop covered possum out of the trap, my fitbit decided that that was the perfect time to start buzzing to let me know that I had reached my step goal for the day. Perfect timing, really, and I am still glad that I didn't pass out next to the possum.

I am officially done trapping for today. ...and now that I have hosed off my poop covered trap in my pitch black alley, I will jump in the shower. Looks like Walter has no intention of coming down, so I might actually be able to get some decent sleep.
