Hi guys!

Thought I would write a quick update on mocha .. She is doing great, loud and sassy as ever :-D She has taken the habit of coming up and pawing at me several times through the night .. she snuggles under the blanket with me, half her body under the sheets, the other half out, with her head wrapped onto my hand .. it's the sweetest!!

We tested her the other night and got a 39 :shock: I was panicked and instantly started wondering what could cause her BG numbers to be so low .. peter told me to snap out of it :lol:

We tested her again this morning, at her AMBG and we got a 71 .. That led me to thinking about the morning numbers .. I know on here I have read and been told that morning numbers are the last to come down .. But is that only true when a kitty is on insulin? Or is it normal for morning numbers to be a little higher then afternoon or late night numbers off insulin?

Tomorrow is mine and peter's 9 year anniversary and we are headed to Niagara Falls for a few days .. We'll be back on Saturday but that means kitty prison for mocha .. She'll be put in our bedroom tomorrow morning with her auto feeder and she'll remain in there till we get home Saturday. My mom is coming over a few times to refill the feeder and to make sure all is well. I'm not liking this idea, but the only other option is to have my mom and dad over five times a day for three days. Don't think they want to do that!

I'm worried that us being gone, my mom poking her head in our room and just simply being locked up is going to stress mocha out .. stressed out to the point of needing insulin again nailbite_smile I'm not sure if a kitty could relapse over something like that, but if they could, mocha would be the one to do it! I guess we wait and see ... nailbite_smile .... nailbite_smile

Ok, well wanted to do a condo before I up and leave the board for a few days without telling everyone to have a great week/weekend!
 
The dawn phenomenon doesn't apply to only diabetes. The way our body ramps up for the stress of the day by releasing cortisol applies in general. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd suggest leaving a radio on for Mocha. I'd also make sure to leave some used clothing around for her to snuggle in. It won't be as good as her getting under the covers with you but hopefully, it will reassure her that you'll be back.

Hi Devon, I think it's wonderful that you will be going to Niagara Falls to celebrate your anniversary and I'm sure that Mocha will be just fine while you're gone. Like most cats, she'll "turn off" and wait it out. It's great that your folks will be able to look in on the kitties.

This is the first time I visit , first time, I know you're Devon & not a PeterDevonMocha :lol: :lol: Dont worry about Mocha, just tell her before you leave that you guys will be back soon. They can understand & will patiently wait for your return. When your mom visit, can she talk to Mocha a bit? I believe they do feel the emotion in our voice.

Happy Anniversary! And say hi to all the kitties at the Falls! :-D :-D I agree, tell Mocha how many darks you will be gone. We always put it in terms of number of ears, tails, and/or paws. :lol: :lol: Then we say goodnight to the kitties every night, just like if we were home. She will be fine.

How awful that you have to worry and fret over how this will affect Mocha...believe ME...I know EXACTLY how you feel.....we all do i guess!! :roll:
I totally agree with Sienne that a radio will be good....and the used clothing laid out on your bed will comfort her so do remember to do that. I would leave a few piles of catnip around too if Mocha likes that....

Oh well...it is your Anniversary and i do hope you both enjoy your time away......

I think that Mocha will be fine ...I don't think that time seems as long to our kitties as it does to us....so for Mocha, it will only be a few long naps until you get back home, right?

I usually like to compare the alternative...which would be what...a kennel?? Isn't it better that they are in their own home? I think so....so this plan of yours is much better than the alternative...now go and have a good time! Hugs!! :mrgreen:

Uh....is she allowed to have a few close friends over for an hour or so?
(LMHO,,,,a "few" close friends to OUR FD kitties means every sing;e cat on the forum and an "hour" or so mean the entire weekend sleepover marathon CAT PAR-TAY!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!! :lol:
 
Hi Devon, Happy Anniversary to you and Peter and how exciting you both get to spend a few days celebrating at Niagra Falls. You've gotten some good advice about talking to Mocha about being gone, and she will understand. She will be fine and great with your Mom checking on her. Thanks for all your visits and support.

Thank you everyone, for the anniversary wishes! I am sure mocha will be ok .. but dang, I worry enough about her when I am home, let alone gone for a few days! nailbite_smile

She'll have the radio on (mainly cause it's always on cause I forget to turn it off!) And she'll have the whole bed to herself, with her favorite "blue blanket" and all of her orange toys, yes, she is partial to orange toys for some reason! She'll have her auto feeder set to go off at her regular feedings and she'll have a LB like always .. I just feel so bad for her .. I know my mom will take good care of her when she comes down .. she even offered today to come down and let her out for awhile, or at night, so they can play together .. But I told her I am worried about twix running in our room and getting under the bed and not coming back out .. It will just be easier on my parents this way ..

I'm sure she knows something is up .. as I'm hugging and kissing her more then normal today (if that's possible)! I'm not sure who will be more relieved when we are back, her or us :lol: I'll tell her tonight we'll be gone for a few days but will be back!

I told peter we need to take a photo of mocha and tape it up somewhere at the falls .. under a table in a restaurant or something .. :lol:

And yes, ALL kitties are welcome to come join mocha and twix this weekend!

Happy Anniversar! we all stress out at leaving our babies. But we have to live our lives too. Mocha will be fine, your parents know how much she means to you and will take great care of her. Have a great time!

Par-Tay!!! We're all set for the sleepover! We'll cleanup so well the beans will never know we were there. Do you have lots of videos of the Falls, please!!! --Tess

Oh, I almost forgot... when I was doing a lot sitting in the hospital waiting room they had a TV with only pet info (it was pretty boring....) and they had little quizzes.
One of the questions asked "What percentage of the day does a cat normally sleep?" The answer was 70%.

So most of the time you and Peter will be gone, Mocha won't even realize it. Now you should subtract 70% of your worries, OK?
 
Happy anniversary!! Will Mocha have her humidifier buddy to keep her company? Or am I thinking of the wrong kitty? Do you have a phone answering machine that plays the message as it's being recorded? If so, call Mocha a couple times every day. She'll love hearing your voices. She'll be fine, but you may be required to pay for your vacation with some special treats when you get home!

Well .. I just uploaded a photo of mocha to wal marts one hour photo center .. Niagara Falls, here comes mocha! :-D

Oh yes, I'll call her a few times while we away .. and bring back lots of new toys for her! And her sissy too ..

And yes, you are remembering correctly, mocha loves her hoomy!! But sadly, they are put away now till next winter .. :sad:

Our Anniversary is on May 6th Sunday!! We are having brunch with my sis & hubs in New Jersey :roll:
bUT IT WILL BE FUN ANYWAY!!
I used to leave my 2 cats with a cat sitter--We had a timer hooked up to a radio & it went on in the day & off at night, so they didnt feel alone, timed feeder and sitter coming twice a day!!!
I am sure Mocha will be fine & happy to see your DM & DD--Go enjoy!!

Is this your first in a while? If so, it sounds like "the falls" is quite appropriate. I mean if Mocha gets to go there, so should you and Peter!!! :mrgreen:

Have a wonderful time. I know I should tell you not to worry, but you will anyway... :lol: Just try to have some fun between the worrying. And who knows, maybe the fun will replace the worry at some point.

Sounds like Pat is rounding up the crew to go hang out with Mocha. ;-)

Please try not to worry about Mocha, I know how hard it is to leave our babies. I'm already stressing so much over a vacation we had planned before Daphne's dx. But it sounds like you have it covered and you have your parents to visit, so I think Mocha will be just fine.

Thanks again everyone, for the anniversary wishes .. It's been about a year since our last trip so we have done this before, but the last time I had someone over at every feeding .. And no kitty got locked up .. this time, it can't be helped ..

I'm sure she'll be ok, I'm just worried, so I appreciate all the good thoughts that she'll be ok!
 
What an awesome report on Mocha and I"m assuming she is still getting her beauties!!! ;-) Poor darling...but you gotta get away. I am certain she will do fine!!! She'll just miss you!

It is so great that you are getting away. You both really deserve it. Try not to worry too much about the kids. tarragon is busy packing for a trip to visit them while you are gone. He promises not to make a mess and be quiet so the cops don't get called. :lol: Mocha will be fine. Your mom will be checking on her and she has all her favorite things, other than you of course.

ANd no worries on the kitties - I like the photo idea - that was cute. radio does help,a s does leaving our some of your clothes. It is so great that your mom will come and care for them. YAY!!

Mannie says things will be cool. He and the kitties are planning on spending alot of time with Mocha, so she won't be lonely or bored or all cooped up. He asked me to tell you not to worry. He will watch over your girl.

Just peeked in to see how everyone is doing and just had to reply to your condo. I'm so happy Mocha is doing great and it's so sweet she's cuddly and sassy!

heehee i LOVE the idea of taping a pic of mocha under a table at the falls. can you imagine the person who eventually finds it? :lol:

i think mocha is snoozing right now! 70% is something like 17ish hours a day. if she's bored she'll probably sleep even more! they do love to nap. ;-)
 
Devon, I missed your condo yesterday so I know I am late wishing you and Peter a Happy Anniversary. I hope you have a wonderful time at Niagara Falls and I'm sure Miss Mocha Jo Latte will be just fine. I am always a nervous wreck when I go out of town so I know just how y'all are feeling. Mocha sounds so wonderful to sleep with. That's just too sweet. I miss sleeping with Racci so much! She can't jump anymore so she can't come up to sleep with me unless I'm awake to put her down when she needs to use the litter. She'll only come up with me if she sees I'm just lying down reading or playing with her, not sleeping.

Try not to worry too much. I know just how you feel but that's such a nice romantic way to celebrate your anniversary, don't let it be ruined. I'm sure the cats will be fine.
