Yesterday's condo

Last nights +2 and +6 and today's AMPS have all been hovering around 150  He was very grumpy this morning that I wouldn't give him his breffis an hour early today but I got lots of suck up cuddles in the process. We Gorilla Glued a latch onto our trashcan last night so now it (seems) Willy proof!

I have extra cat collars in a drawer and last night I came up with a plan to put one (with a bell) on Zell so that Rasta can hear where he is because part of the problem is Zell likes to sneak up on him. I know Zell hates collars but I figured we would take it slow and give treats (my DH wanted to just slap it on him while he was eating but Zell literally goes into a full blown panic). I pull the collar out with Zell in the kitchen and he immediately runs and hides (he doesn't hide from anything). I was in total shock. He finally comes back around, and I try to lure him with food and he won't budge. I hide the collar and lure him with food and he comes but the minute he hears the bell he takes off. It even deters him from being in the kitchen while I'm feeding everyone.

So, I put the collar on Rasta figuring it might keep Zell back since he seems to be upset about the bell noise as well as the collar. I don't know if this is mean, I don't want anyone to be scared of anyone, but I feel like Rasta needs something extra. My fear is that Zell will be able to find Rasta easier because of the bell and it would only escalate his harassment or he would become scared of Rasta and start getting more aggressive out of fear. It's working out that Zell won't get as close to Rasta as he was (invading space was part of the issue). He isn't avoiding him and seems more interested than scared but he is giving Rasta more space. He IS seeking Rasta out when he hears him doing something, but he seems to stay back rather than running in and jumping on him. Rasta is acting all proud of himself, I'm not sure if this is because of the collar or because Zell isn't on him nearly as much, but either way he's been out in the open most of today and was zooming around last night despite Zell being around.

I hope everyone has a happy Thursday today! We have many of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi guys .. nice blues for willy! Sounds like you have a lot going on in your house, trying to get that collar stuff all figured out .. hoping it starts working for you soon .. have a great day guys!

Re: 5/19 Willy AMPS 149

Hearing stories like yours makes me secure in my decision not to get another cat!! Champ has been the king far too long...don't want to upset the balance! Champ doesn't even notice when I put a collar on him. I've even dressed him up in a collar and tie (made for a cat, like a costume) and he just sat there and let me take pictures. When I take his collar off so I can give him a good neck scratching, he likes to chew on it. Don't know why, but he loves the taste of collars. :-D

Have a great day, Stephanie!!

Oh Stephanie, that is too funny!!! I'm sorry to laugh, but it is amazing the amount of brain power we have to use to try and outsmart our fur babies. I hope the new collar works to keep Zell away from Rasta. Tarragon and Turnup hate to have their collars off for any reason. It is nice to be able to keep track of them too with the bells and it keeps us from tripping over them or stepping on them in the dark.

Hope the snow is all gone and that it is warmer days ahead for you!

Re: 5/19 Willy AMPS 149

Haha. My dog LOVES clothes and his backpack because of all the attention he gets. Willy doesn't mind his collar much. Rasta doesn't mind them either (he usually just wears one if we go out of town and someone is coming by to check on them--- he's a really good hider). Zell, I don't know about why he hates them so much... he's always been this way.

The dynamic in my house makes no sense and it's not even consistent! One month everything will be fine and the next everything is all chaotic!! Zell will hide or sleep with Rasta if he gets scared over something. It's so weird. I am really lucky because really, it isn't that bad--- we don't have the physical fighting. I think if we lived in a bigger house (or our own house that we could do things to as we saw fit) it would probably not be an issue. At least it's never boring...

Melissa-- SERIOUSLY! I used to work with 2year olds and I didn't have to be as creative in my solutions as I am with my guys. I don't have to worry much about keeping track of them--- they are always yelling at me for food!!!  It can be cold outside if it wants to be... but I wish it would stop being all precipitation-y. My dog is trying to bring back enough water to have a small pool in the living room (which he would avoid because he really hates water/snow).

Willy is being such a sweetheart lately. I hope this means he's feeling better. I need to find some tooth paste or mouth wash that will be ok for him considering they ALL have questionable ingredients in them. I have a good one for everyone else that has glycerin and naturally derived alcohol in it and I'm worried it COULD affect his BG. I am getting so good at reading labels.

Re: 5/19 Willy AMPS 149, +2~180

ohmygosh you were killing me! a quesadilla maker? an ice bucket. i have a tortilla squisher thing, press, i guess it's called. mostly i'm allergic to small appliances because they take up so much space.

it wouldn't be so bad, but i have not only my stuff but all my mom's kitchen stuff. the kids picked out the everyday stuff they want, but there's still a lot of special occasion stuff left. one of my mom's friends told me "getting rid of your mom's stuff isn't getting rid of your mom" but i've still got emotional baggage tied to all of it and can't quite do it yet.

willy is a wiley coyote type of critter - think about how he always tried to outsmart roadrunner with all his conniving. love it. you have to remember to tell us if he gets into the garbage can.

I like to pretend I am a chef so I have an assortment of random small appliances. If we hadn't moved into this new apartment I don't know what I would have done... my kitchen is like 5x bigger than my old one and we still don't have enough room!

I have a similar emotional attachment issue only I haven't even been able to begin to LOOK through the things. They are sitting in my front closet in boxes that I shipped from NY and haven't touched yet... completely the same as when they were dropped off here. I think it's a normal step to go through.

Willy has been so cuddly today. I have the kennel out because we might need to travel again soon. Its a foldable dog travel kennel with mesh on all the sides made by pet gear. I went to take his BG +6 and I couldn't find him ANYWHERE. I started to get frantic thinking he might have SOMEHOW got outside (he is so ungraceful so it's unlikely that he can do it undetected) and I finally think to call him since he responds to his name. ohmygod_smile He just throws out a mrow at me from inside the kennel. I go over an look inside and he's stretching out all comfy on his back which I've never seen him do before. I walked past that thing like 10 times looking for him. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile He seems so much happier and spunkier since he's been in the blues for awhile.

I hope the trash can works, it would be really nice not to have to keep a box on top of it. It's really inconvenient when I'm doing things in the kitchen. Willy isn't so much wiley as he is brute force until he gets his way-y... If you knew him when he's being normal and then heard about how he's "acting up" you wouldn't even think it's the same cat. He's so lazy/snuggly/relaxed that it doesn't seem possible.

i just watched a show on animal channel - the cat from hell, or something like that. a cat-whisperer guy, jackson, helped people with their cat behavior issues. it was fascinating! wish i'd seen some of that when i first got punkin. the guy was empowering the chicken-kitties by getting them up high in the air, perched on things. really interesting. it'd be fun to have someone like that come an analyze your kitter! maybe he was "owning" the crate. my crate. my space. i am king!
