Max must have bounced last night seeing this red this morning at AMPS. We’ve been at NC State Vet this morning for his cardiology follow up echo. He got a blood pressure check and I asked for the results and they told me it was 180-190 systolic. They didn’t give me a diastolic number. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be the same measurements as humans or not. The doctor said they considered that pretty normal for a cat who’s at the vet’s office. I mentioned the protein in his urine and the concern of whether it was cardiac related. They said to follow up with internal medicine but they didn’t recommend any medication or treatment now. They told me his echo actually looked slightly better than the last one as far as the thickening of the ventricles, and he didn’t need another one until a year from now or unless he had problems. They did not repeat any of his labs. Overall it sounded like a good report from the resident cardiologist. So we are back home now and Max is happy about that. Sugar still high, but he’s happy and resting.

I am VERY happy to hear that Max’s heart has actually improved. Are you giving him any heart supplements? I am giving Ginger the Vetri Science Cardio Strength (because it really helped another cat that I had with HCM years ago.). She hasn’t had a follow up six month ultrasound yet; we have a couple of months to go. One of the most important heart supplements is Coenzyme Q10. I feel really good about them saying Max would not need to have another echo for a year!

Thanks! I do give Max some omega 3 drops. I just started that recently. Does the Vetri science have coenzyme q10 in them? I had no idea the thickening in his heart could decrease but that’s what he said. I was a little concerned about his blood pressure though, but they seemed to think it was stress because of his visit. Now I just have to have his labs again to follow up on that protein in his urine and elevated UPC. And of course we are still doing the best we can to get his BG better regulated.

That's fantastic news on the echo report! That's a big relief in a acrokitty.

As for the blood pressure, it does seem a touch on the high side, but it can be higher with stress. Neko tested once over 220 after a very stressful vetty visit, retesting when calmer got her closer to 140. My vet considered 180 the edge of white coat syndrome. Might want to try getting his BP tested a second time, ideally if you could go in and spend a few minutes in a quiet room with him.

Thanks Wendy! Sounds like a good idea when I get the second BP check. I was very happy to hear the news about his echo.
