Max is bouncing again from being in the blue or just not enough juice. Either way I can test at +4.5 to make sure all is well and will deal with what to do with him either tonight or tomorrow.

I know we wanted a bounce today but this is crazy high. He ate well at shot time and I did give him a little higher carb food, the chunky ff just in case he decided to drop but this is his highest score ever. I hope it's a meter error but I'm not going to test again until before I leave the house. Then I will give him some lc to last until tonight. No need for anyone to feed after that at least.

I wonder if the insulin really has reached its limit. I'll open the new one as soon as I am sure my mom will be home and safe. If that one doesn't seem to have much kick, I'll need to get a new script from my vet. I guess the pens are a better way to go? How do you get the coupons so they only cost $25?

Update: It's the chunky turkey which is still only 7% vs the classics which are 3-4%. I doubt that is the problem.

You need to make sure Max's "birthdate" makes him 18, and of course don't mention that he's a cat! Of course your pharmacist will know he's a cat, and some pharmacists are cooler than others when it comes to using the coupon. Not all pharmacies will sell the pens individually, either, so you may have to call around a bit. My local Target pharmacy does sell them, and the pharmacist there is awesome - he had no issue with using the coupon for Trix.

Rocky can sometimes see the numbers in 400s and mid-500s after a longer stretch of blue of green numbers. He can also wear red and black when he is going on days and days without enough insulin...

Max was seeing really great numbers with his last dose amount of insulin before this current dose, right? Maybe his live and pancreas are setting up to require less insulin. Wouldn't that be fantastic?!

Hope everything is going well right now for your mom. Will have to wait for your report back tonight.

Yeah I'd call it a bounce too! Looks like it's possible Max continued down yesterday during the AM cycle (after +6) and then BOING!! up he went!

If I'm reading right, you're concerned about the pen being bad because it was out of the refrigerator for an hour? If that's what you're thinking, there's really no need to open a new one.

The only reason we say to refrigerate them is to make them last as long as possible! It's too expensive to risk it, so it's just better to keep it cold.

Most of us have left our insulin out for much, much longer and it was still perfectly fine.

at least he made it so you don't have to worry while you're there at the hospital!

I got home a few minutes ago and was only a half hour late with the insulin. Either he is still bouncing or the dose is too low. I thought perhaps the red was the end of it but I guess not.

Thanks for the info on coupons, Amy. I got a vial the first time which has lasted 6 months and is still clear but I wonder if it is losing its potency.

Chris, the second vial I have was given to me by a nurse that was doing home visits for my mom. I don't know how long it was out of the refrigerator before she brought it to me. It expires in a few months so I might as well open it and see if it is okay. It was for her ex-husband who passed away.

Yes Julie, it was very considerate of Max to bounce today.Now tonight I hope he comes down to blue.

Tina, I guess the next few cycles will tell if this is a good dose or not. Thanks for checking in on us.

Now the good news. While my mom's surgery was more complicated than her doctor expected, she did really well. It was supposed to be not more than a couple of hours but it was closer to 3 1/2. Her bone was really soft so he had to do a different procedure than the preferred one so her joint will be quite stiff and her finger will be about 4mm shorter but at least it will be normal in size. She didn't get into recovery until about 5:30 so they are keeping her overnight. I'm glad it's over but will be happier when she comes home. I ran into her cardiologist when I was leaving and he was really surprised to see me. He didn't expect her to be there overnight and said he would stop in to see her tomorrow morning.

That was considerate of Max to bounce for you today so you could be with your mom without worrying about him. Max - you can come down now that mamabean is home. :smile:

I'm glad to hear the surgery went OK. I hope everything goes well overnight and that she can come home right away in the morning. Sending healing and speedy recovery vines to you guys!
