Re: 5/19 Lucian AMPS 551

it looks like lucian is now bouncing from lower blues. i can think of two things that might help. you could try adding a little bit onto the dose (fatten it or increase by 0.25u) and/or refrain from feeding after +6 or +7 (depending on his numbers). of course, you'd want to feed if he looks like he'll drop dangerously low in the second half of the cycle.

sometimes feeding in the latter half of the cycle slows down whatever action may be left on the insulin.
what do you think?

I never know when he'll nadir, sometimes it's +8 or later. Lucian is a very vocal cat, not feeding him when he wants to be fed and you WILL hear about it, until he gets food. No idea how I could do that.

He was doing ok in blues and yellows, then spiked. He never even got to green so I wasn't expecting that. Been steering him with MC to keep him from going below 100. His lowest, I think, was about 124 or so.

In the last few days, although he got into blues, he was still steady climbing each day. On 2.0U, before I dropped him to 1.75, he went the lowest ever, don't want to deal with that again. Maybe I can add just a drop to his 1.75.That's so hard to do.

Son was here for a couple hrs, had dinner with me. He is NOT ok. It's gonna be a long time before he gets over this, if ever.

Re: 5/19 Lucian AMPS 551,+6.75/285

not feeding after +6 or +7 may not work with lucian. all you can do is try. if it works... wonderful. if it doesn't... it doesn't.

adding a drop onto his dose may help. i know it's not easy. my eyesight isn't the best even with those reading glasses. i have trouble myself. maybe try measuring to 2u and then gently squeezing out a drop or two???

deb, i feel so badly for your son, you, and your entire family. i wish things were easier with lucian. i don't even like asking you to try something different when you have all this going on around you. your plate is overflowing...

(((((hugs)))))

Re: 5/19 Lucian AMPS 551,+6.75/285

Ya know Jill, having to care for Lucian is probably the only thing keeping me sane right now. Knowing that I have to keep a schedule, there's things I HAVE to do for him. keeps me from dwelling on it constantly. I'd lose my mind if it was just me.

Since Lucian dropped into low yellow, possibly high blue last night, maybe I'll try to bump his dose starting in the morning. I'll play with a syringe and see if I can get a decent skinny 2.0/fat 1.75. Is there really a difference in those two?

Playing with a syringe at 2.0, 1 drop takes it to 1.75, 2 drops, to 1.5, so I would have to come off 1/2 drop to get between 2.0 and 1.75. When I say DROP, I mean when the fluid at the tip of the needle gets big enough to fall over the edge. I'm guessing I need to make drops that aren't big enough to fall over. @-) I'm working on it. :YMSIGH:

Re: 5/19 Lucian AMPS 551,+6.75/285

With the drop method, the drop needs to be big enough to flick off, not fall off.

Have you checked out syringe magnifiers? They clip to the syringe barrel. They have them on Amazon. That might be helpful in addition to the reader glasses. What magnification reader did you get? They come as high as 4X.

Re: 5/19 Lucian AMPS 551,+6.75/285

I don't have readers, I have bifocals. I've managed to get 4 drops per .25, fairly consistently, but that's the best I can do so far. If that works, then I could go 2 drops less than 2.0 and be half way between that and 1.75. Sometimes when I get the drop ready, I let go of the plunger to flick it off and it sucks it back in! :o

I need a magnifier of some sort, even a magnifying glass would help. Unfortunately, Worker's comp is messing with me again, no check this week, again! :-x I'll try to find something when I can.
