Yesterday's Condo

Sorry I didn't get around to posting till now. See explanation below.

Cinco still seems to like this dose. Although I never know when he's going to stay flat and when he'll jump in the lagoon. Guess that makes me like most of the people in LL, right?!

I had to get up really early this morning to get Sasha into Sacramento for her surgery. I had everything ready to go and then could not find the little wretch. She is usually pretty easy to catch for vet trips, but the no food or water around all night gave me away. Poor thing, she always "helps" me get ready for bed at night and for the day each morning, by hanging out on the bathroom counter, and she loves to drink from the faucet. She could not understand, last night and this morning, why I kept blocking her from the water. I felt like a big ol' meany. So this morning when I didn't follow my usual routine, both Abys disappeared (Harvey always assumes he's the unlucky one and hides until I leave). I finally found her under the headboard of our bed. It's a waterbed-style platform bed with a big high headboard, and it's constructed in pieces. There's a gap between the base of the bed and the base of the headboard, and Sasha can get through it , which makes it almost impossible to get to her. ALMOST being the key word. After twenty minutes of contortions, I finally managed to extricate her. Once in the car, I didn't have to wait more than a minute for her to throw up (not that she had much to vomit). After that, she was fine the whole drive to the vet. Dr. Codde said she looked good and she was comfortable with proceeding. She warned me that the incision would be a long one, and the shaved area pretty big.

I managed to snag a same day appointment with my primary care doctor. Mark was working from home today, so I called to ask him to test Cinco and give him his eye drops. He agreed, so instead of going all the way home (1.25 hours) and coming back later, I stayed in Sacramento. He called me after each test, to let me know what was going on, which I appreciated, but he did fine.

Dr. Codde called around 2:00 to tell me Sasha came through the surgery like a champ. She said the tumor was bigger and more firmly attached than she's expected, but she was confident she got it all out. I picked Sasha up around 4:30 and she was mostly quiet on the way home, just grumbling under her breath every now and then. She has a long incision on her side with staples. One of the techs warned me that, even with the e-collar, I'd need to watch to be sure she didn't scratch at the incision I asked what I could do about it, and she recommended I get a baby t-shirt to put on her! I'd read about that somewhere, but never thought about doing it. After I got Sasha home, I ran back out and picked some up (they are hard to find, by the way - everything is a onsie). Once I had one on her, I realized she didn't really need the e-collar, as the incision was covered up. She's not too sure about the shirt, but she's much happier without the collar. We'll just see how it goes with the shirt alone. So far she hasn't been the least bit interested in her incision.

She looks uncomfortable, but I'm not sure if it's because of the pain shot they gave her or because of the shirt, or what. They gave me pain meds for her, but I'm not supposed to give them to her until tomorrow. She was really hungry, and it was hard to only give her a little food at a time, but she kept it down, so she's had three small meals now. They gave her subqs, so she isn't the least bit interested in drinking water. About two hours after her first meal, I went up to check on her and could not find her. I looked everywhere - no Sasha. Suddenly I saw something out of the corner of my eye, and there she was, up on the plant shelf! :o  I grabbed a ladder and brought her down. I checked her staples, and everything was fine. I put something on top of the cat condo, which is her launching point for getting up to the plant shelf. She's a little put out with me.

So now the hard part - waiting the 5-7 days until the pathology report comes back on the tumor. Not sure how much sleep I'll be getting. Tomorrow (Tuesday) is Cinco's follow up appointment with the Oncologist at UC Davis. Something else to stew over. I hope everyone else has/had a good night!

Re: 5/19 Cinco PMPS 139 +2 124 +4 127 Civvie Surgery Upda

We were thinking about you all day yesterday. I'm glad the surgery went well....we're sending tons of prayers for a perfect report. Poor Sasha with the big incision, but I bet she's adorable in her little t-shirt (pictures please!)! I hope she leaves the shirt and the incision alone - you've put in more than enough time with those crazy collars!

Cinco is looking awesome, too!!!

I'm glad the surgery went well. Sending prayers for Shasha's recovery and for good results. I hope she leaves the incision alone. I think the baby shirt is much better than the e-collar. Nice blues for Cinco last night. Sending good vetty vines for Cinco's appointment today.
