Liz is off for her last workshop day with an extra stop at the vet this morning to take Tillie, our civvie, for her dental. She was pretty upset about the whole not eating thing, so that may have gotten Mr Z upset too. Because we couldn't feed her after 10 pm, we couldn't leave the auto feeder set up, so I did a nap and feed routine for him until about 3 am.

Zener ate great last night but it was the appy stimulant. He didn't want to eat shortly after his shot and we were a bit worried with the subQ fluids on board that his numbers could dive. So, I gave him a small bit of cypro when he was not interested in eating and about 10 minutes later he was eating. Oh well, that was too quick for the appy stimulant. I guess I should have been more patient! He ate too much last night so isn't all that hungry this morning, paws crossed he doesn't take a dive.

Re: 5/18 Zener PMPS 141 Dental & vet report

Good Friday evening LL. Tillie is home from the vetty and all went well with her dental. No extractions necessary but pockets of gum infection so she is on clindamycin for 10 days. She is feeling pretty good considering and starting to eat a few bits of food. Zener thinks she smells a bit "funky".

Our vet got Zener's blood work back and everything looked good - kidneys, liver, thyroid. She said no one who looked at his blood work would know he was diabetic. The only thing out of the ordinary was the mild dehydration, and they gave him subQ fluids yesterday after the blood draw & urine collection. She could not find any reason for the mild dehydration from the tests other than his bout of inappetance and perhaps we were not adding in enough water with the miralax. So, we are adding a bit more water to his food, reducing the miralax to once a day (and mixing it in water before putting on his food), and monitoring his water intake and watching for peeing behavior. He had to have subQ fluids once before when he stopped eating, so we have paws crossed this is a minor thing. Our vet told us if he ends up having problems with getting easily dehydrated they can teach us how to do fluids, but didn't want to add another thing to our already complex routine, unless it becomes absolutely necessary. We agreed!

He is outside on yard patrol at this very moment. We've been under a red flag warning for high winds & low humidity today, so it was a miserable day for any serious patrolling of the backyard. Peeing observed, but Detective Poo has not spotted any other suspicious activity yet.

Re: 5/18 Zener PMPS 141 Dental & vet report

Hi Anne & Liz, very good reports on both Zener and Tillie. So glad no extractions for Tillie. What are the pockets of gum infection, or I should ask, what causes it. So glad Zener's b/w came back okay. It is a problem getting Mags to drink water. I was thinking of buying a water fountain. I wonder if it would help. Glad to hear Zener is on yard patrol. :-D Have a good night.

Re: 5/18 Zener PMPS 141 Dental & vet report

Oh Man, if I had a massage, I would go into a deep sleep :-D

I'm glad the blood work came back good. I hope you get his hydration issue under control. I think I've wondered before if Miralax would take fluids away (I'm getting sleepy) make them more dehydrated.

I hope you all have a good Friday evening, too. I'm glad Tillie's dental went well. I think Ginger's going to need one soon. Enjoy your relaxed evening with your kitties.

It is like gum disease in humans, so pockets of tartar under the edge of the gums allow bacteria to accumulate. I guess the Queen has not been flossing regularly.

We were relieved. Each time he has had appy problems since his FD diagnosis and we have had tests run, everything comes back good on his kidneys, liver, pancreas and thyroid. We are grateful for that. Wish we had the answer to why he has these bouts of inappetance, but at least we have some things that work - ondansetron, cerenia, zantac, cypro. We bought a ceramic water fountain but neither kitty pays much attention to it. Liz has seen Zener drink from it a couple of times. We have another big bowl of still water in our laundry room and he much prefers to drink there.

Since our last report, Chief Inspector Crapdash spied a deposit and went out for inspection. All good with a small amount of pudding poo at the end. Hoping cutting back on the miralax will be good for that too. We've been giving him fortiflora more the last couple of days, that also helps when his appy is poor.

Re: 5/18 Zener PMPS 141 Dental & vet report

Great reports for both Tillie and Zener. Glad Tillie didn't need any extractions...with kitties, I'm sure some sort of dental issues can always be expected, but wonderful that she's still got all of her shiny white bright smile! And, great news for Zener's bloodwork, too. I know you'd love an answer about his appy, but it IS good news that his bloodwork is good!

Have a great evening!!

Hi!
It's great about Zener's bloodwork and Tillie's dental. How wonderful to get those out of the way for a while! Nice PMPS, Z.

Have a fine weekend. I hope you get some rain soon.

Thanks to all for visiting us tonight. We are feeling much better now that Tillie's dental is over, Zener's lab work was good and his appy is returning. :-D

@Dyana - I believe I did go into a deep sleep! It seemed like the massage only lasted about 10 minutes, though I do remember being asked to turn over! ;-) I read about the Miralax possibly taking away fluids on someone's condo in LL and the advice was to mix in water first, then add to food. We had gotten pretty lax on doing that. We tried the Drinkwell Platinum water fountain and the kitties did not take to it. Also, our civvie has feline acne issues so we didn't like the plastic construction. We got another one that Sienne told us about. Ceramic drinking fountain We've seen Zener drink from it a couple of times, but Tillie is NOT interested. We rarely see her drink at all though.

@Amy - Tillie is very proud of her newly shiny teeth! You are so right - it IS very good news that bloodwork was so good!

@Sienne - thanks for the good wishes. Zener has been looking pretty good lately despite feeling a little punk. Guess that could be a clue it wasn't anything serious since his numbers did not jump up.

@Ella - we are greatly relieved tonight! And yes, please send us some rain. It's dry, windy and fire season has started.

Happy weekend!

@Marje - the massage was fabulous, vet report great, Zener is feeling better and Tillie is eating bits without puking. It's a great night!

Liz and I were both thinking today that we might need to bump back up a drop since we hadn't seen a green number in several cycles at this dose. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Guess we'll stay here a few more cycle.
