Good morning Lantus Land,

Going to be another sunny and beautiful day here. Although there have been a few kitty complaints that the nights are getting cold in the house with the heat turned off.

I just told them to learn to appreciate the sunshine!

Have a great day!

Nice sunny start for Attie today! Tell the kitties they just need to snuggle a little closer. Beautiful day here as well. I hope you get out and enjoy it. Have a wonderful day Beth!

No panic here...that's a kibble raid!!!! I went outside to water the garden and came back in to him attempting to finish off the SECOND bowl of kibble on the table. ohmygod_smile

I haven't been on for a while. How is Attie and gang doing?

Attie is doing well if being able to leap up to the kibble table is any indication.

Dr. Nappier admitted today he has been watching and checking Attie's numbers daily this week. He says he is actually finding this interesting, in he has never had a client monitor so closely. That said, he is also wondering if his other patients (diabetic cats) have as much variance in their daily numbers. I told from what I have seen they most likely are and that is why I advocate hometesting as it provides a much better picture overall than the single fructosamine tests. He was also surprised Attie bounced from the blue numbers the other day and I explained to him ...sometimes they bounce until the liver decides to 'relax' about going below some set point. He is starting to think, like I was, that Lantus just isn't the right insulin for Atlas and we may get better regulation on something with a shorter duration that we can react to his bounces. He is hesitant though to go ahead with it just yet, as he feels there may be a big drawback with the 'swings' Atlas can be prone too.

Well we've done it his way for the month, we're going to hold over the weekend at the 1.0. In Feb. we were avg. 188 and this past week was 272. 2.5u and 1.0u respectively, with lots of highs and lows inbetween at almost all points along the way.

We also discussed the food issue of blueberries and cranberries and he deferred by saying I likely know more than he does in that regard.

I'm glad to see that was just a contraband number!!!!

It is great that your vet is paying such close attention, he's going to learn so much and become so much better at treating his other FD patients - truely wonderful stuff :-D

It sounds like your vet is open to learning, and maybe you are teaching him a thing or two ;-)

Come on down, nice and easy tonight, Attie.

Oh Attie, I heard what you did  Ok, funs over, come on down now.

It is good to read what you are telling your vet, its sad that we need to teach them, they really should be learning this stuff themselves, but I am happy to tell also, as long as they are willing to listen and work with you. I was happy my new vet was impressed with my SS and not to insist on the fructosamine test. My last vet would not even look at the SS, and insisted instead on only the Fructos. test, so I fired her.

Have a great weekend!
